I've run everything from 1/16" to 1/4" of rear toe. It it absolutely not alignment related. There's a large amount of flex and/or dynamic toe change going on back there. Feels like a rubber band winding up and releasing at times.

I bought some Whiteline poly bushings for both the toe and trailing arms...being dragging my feet installing...but I will soon.

I'll let you know.
Have you replaced the toe arms?

The alignment explanation sounds like utter bs to me... something is flexing, and a lot... this should be obvious in my opinion.

No, just going to replace the soft factory bushings with the Whitelines. The issue isn't going to be the arm itself, although replacing the whole arm is obviously easier than pressing in new bushings.

You're correct. It is quite easy to feel all the flex/windup back there. Certainly not alignment.

What somewhat surprise me is that some people don't feel this, when this is insanely excessive, to the point of not being a safe car...

I have the m3 subframe bushings and that 99% fixes the up and down bouncing... the side to side is still there and scary... like the car is about to bounce off the chassis.

Agree completely. Driven a few 135s now, they all have it. So does our X1 (all E90 out back). I put polys in the rear subframe too, didn't cure this issue obviously.

Can't believe no one has pinned down the cause.

Anyway, I hope to stop being lazy in the next week or two and press those bushings in. See where that gets me.

IMHO, it's not likely the arm, but rather the bushings. This is just a daily driver for me, so I'll give $50 bushings a try before dropping $200-250 on a set of adjustable arms.

Just curious, which set do you have? Can you post a link to them?

Same bushings for both the toe arms and trailing arms. So if you're planning on doing both sets of arms, you need two.

Please let me know how this goes. Now that I have reinforced subframe and 600lb springs out back I can feel lateral flex in the rear. Whereas before it was just chaos to be frank. Honestly I think it's the RTABs. But worth changing them all. Have you done the M3 guide arm?

Are you planning on replacing the RTABs as? Will the harbor freight bushing kit work? I have wanted to do the RTABs, but didn't think it was possible to do at home.

Yes, I have two sets, one for the toe arms, the other for the RTABs.

Easy to do at home at least the HF ball joint c-clamp kit. Seriously, if you don't have the clamp, run get it. Invaluable tool. The bearing puller is obviously great too, but it won't work on the ball joints as the puller rod is too thick. I use the clamp kit a good bit more. Front hydrobearing/control arm bushing replacements, rear ball joints, etc. Those and their set of cheap three, three-jaw pullers, you can do anything.

Obviously, a good impact gun driving them vs. you having to turn wrenches yourself (god forbid ) speeds things along nicely.

Thanks for the pictures. I do have an impact gun so I am good there. If I just didn't literally finish my tc install I would totally do the RTABs. But I'm feeling a little lazy so I'm probably going to wait until this set of tires wears out and install them before the next alignment.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions once you get them installed.

Nice! I'll have to get a set of pullers/clamps from HF, love that store. Did you have to drop any other part of the rear suspension to swap the RTABs and toe arm bushes?

Sad to report, I think they made things worse. Still get the jumping and disconnected feeling out back, but it seems to snap back more violently now after installing the trailing and toe arm bushings.

I'm thinking of trying the inner camber arm bushings or just throwing in the towel.

Seriously BMW...this is the best you can do?

If poly bushings makes it worse than before, is it worth getting new genuine OE rubber bushings in the toe links?

I assume you got the car re-aligned after changing bushings.

AFAIK, the best solution would be the bimmerworld adjustable rear toe links. If I get serious about tracking the car, that's what I would buy.

My car became a LOT better once I installed Whiteline RSFB (not the inserts), Godspeed toe links, camber links, and M3 Guide rods. Cured all the ills the rear end had, and I'm still on stock springs/shocks mind you... Installed them all at once so I wouldn't be able to tell you the individual effect each of the mods had.

I marked the eccentric bolts before removal, and I checked the toe after reinstall with my plates. Still spot on.

Why would you think adjustable toe links are the best solution, if the toe links don't appear to be the problem?

Yeah, could be the inner camber arm bushing, or the guide rods.

I'll probably cave and buy a set of inner camber arm bushings on the cheap.....but I doubt I'll spring for the M3 guide rods at this point, at least not on the 135, as I'll probably be selling in a year or so.

Perhaps I'll try them on the X1, which suffers from the same problem, albeit to a lesser extent.

Edit: What are you referring to as the "camber arm"? The camber arm is the sheet metal arm that supports the spring on an E90, but that's not what the Godspeed camber arms are.
