I got both sets of brakes done through the maintenance plan even though the BC said I didn't need them for another 7.5k miles.

In Canada, the 'wear' parts like pads, rotors, clutch, belts etc are not covered under new car warranty like they are in the USA.

Those parts aren't covered under the warranty in the US, either. They are, however, covered under the maintenance plan.

Dealers seem to do pads and rotors together. Someone else mentioned that. Often times, I have found that the rotors on my e46 are fine. The 1-er is still covered by the free maintenance, so I don't pay much attention there, yet.

IMO, get an indy shop to check it out and (probably) just do the pads. Not free, but far less $$$, I am sure. Or, do it yourself.
