Methanol Installation Advice

Hi -

I just bought a Snow Performance Methanol Kit for my 135i.

I wanted some advice from those who have installed the kit.

(1) Should I buy a charge pipe so as to avoid drilling into the stock charge pipe?
If so, would something cheap such as the following work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-3...Q5fAccessories

(2) Is there a way to install the methanol controller and canister in the engine compartment?

Thanks in advance....
any advice is appreciated

Do not install in engine compartment, it gets to hot in there and the car ends up burning on the side of the 210 freeway for 18 minutes. Don't ask me how I know this

If your going to do this, do it right. Buy a good charge pipe, I would not buy that e bay crap. Or, buy another factory charge pipe and tap it with your nozzle. This way it's an easy swap out for a dealer visit..

I would not mount any hardware in the engine bay. I would trunk mount everything and run the line up to the engine compartment.

Get a stett charge pipe that is already tapped for meth, put nothing in the engine bay, and run tubes under car to avoid leaks and piercing the fire wall.

Some meth users have done the install using the windshield washer reservoir. If done this way, you'll be alerted of low meth levels via the low wiper fluid warning light in the dash.

No ian has never had a 1 series, but his methanol was in his washer fluid tank and yes that is why his e90 caught on fire multiple times and eventually ended up in a giant piece of melted metal. The washer fluid tank sits to close to the exhaust especially if your car is lowered.

in no way, shape, or form to i think that methanol in your windshield res is responsible for your car going up in flames. its a very common practice to use the resevior and wiper fluid already has a high concentration of methanol in it so i don't understand why one would associate the barbecuing of his/her car to a chemical that if anything is being replaced with a more diluted version of itself.

Not true, if he did not use a 50/50 mixture then it is more than plausable. 50/50 has a flash point of 641F whereas 100% is something like 140F so it could easily happen.

I dont believe the car burst into flames because of a 70/30 mix of meth/water in the reservoir.

MAYBE if the tank was touching hot metal, plastic got melted and the mixture leaked out and ignited. But other than that I dont see the reservoir getting hot enough to ignite it, the plastic would melt first and you would smell it.

its a fairly common practice in other platforms to do that, wouldnt be surprised if he wasnt running 50/50 mix when that happened but you never know i guess
