The calipers on my car are about 30,000kms old and at least 60% of the dust boots are completely shot. The pistons themselves look in fine condition though. I'm using upgraded pads, ECS 2-piece rotors, Ti shims and no dust shields. In those 30,000kms over 3 years I've done maybe 10 or so circuit days.

Right - I get that it's different... I saw somewhere in the thread a request for comparison to high milage calipers, so I was just sharing what I saw.

Yeah I have an E88 135i with 148,000kms and the dust caps and pistons on those were fine. I've tracked it maybe 2-3 times but using stock brake pads but nothing like how I've tracked the E82. The E82 also has a lot more power and better pads so will generate a lot more heat.

Backing plate for brake cooling
By way of comparison, this is what a race-specific cooling plate looks like. I run these on my Spec3 race car. Notice the flange is angled slightly towards front and that air is directed to center of hub/rotor to force flow into and through cooling veins.
