They called me back today (Tuesday) -- the SA said he had a long crank at cold start in the morning. When he drove to the shop, they tried it again and had a long crank with a warm start there. So looks like I'm getting a new HPFP.... |

I bought a used '08 135i with about 5600 miles about 3 weeks ago... I'm starting to freak out reading about these pump problems. No rough start or long crank times yet here, but I was wondering, when was the soonest you guys have noticed this problem (under 10k miles, or over) ? Is there any way to tell if the pump has been replaced? (carfax maybe?)

BMW could probably tell if you the HPFP has been replaced, and what pump was installed. Carfax would never have it. From what I've read and heard (including Mike Miller's tech talk column in Roundel, and from my SA,) they do believe that the software is a component of the problem. If you're concerned, take the car to the dealer and make sure you have the most up-to-date software. (Clearly, it doesn't necessarily stop the problems from happening once they start, but having the software updated certainly can't hurt.) |

Software fixed all my problems. The pump never died but I was having long cranks. After the software update it was all good, no more long cranks.

Had my HPFP replaced about a year ago (extended starts, power loss, CEL, etc), all fine until roughly 3 months ago - getting extended starts and a miss under load and ageneral feeling of a little less power. Took her in and received the"software update" and told to stick with Shell, BP, Texaco gas (stuff with techron). Again all was well until 2 weeks ago when it started haveing a rough idle - most noticeable on first start of day - 44k miles figured plugs were getting tired. Anyway, Monday this week she started doing the very extended start thing - my plan was to bring her in Wednesday to have looked at.
- of course the HPFP recall news comes out Tue night. I sheepishly call my SA Wed AM and say - don't want to sound like chicken little but honestly I am having issues. He says just bring it, we will look at it, probably have to keep overnight. So called earlier today to check status and ..... yes getting another new HPFP. They found a "code", sent to engineers, who said replace...... Also my 3rd brakelight being replaced for the 4th time - didn't crack - the ends are disintegrating. |

5 months, 3500 miles on new HPFP. No issues so far. Although I have noticed that fuel economy has gone down since getting the new pump -- don't know if this is due to a cold winter or the new pump, though.
