thez99-I'm in a small town about an hour west of State College, on I-80.

I do have a garage at my apartment, so the 1er sits under a roof no matter what. I love having that garage.

But, I also have an '05 Focus ST, which is still in great shape, and I drive only it during the winter.

My neighborhood mechanic, who owns a garage five blocks away, offered to tuck the 128 away in a garage he owns where he stores his PSU football tailgating motorhome. He refused to take any money, but I managed to slip a gift card from Cabela's onto his desk ; )

I have not regretted maknig the drive to Sun one bit. The dealer in State College looked at how I was dressed (shorts and a T from playing tennis), saw my Focus, and took an attitude.

Mike Monteith laughed, and said, "We don't have a dress code here!"

PS-Stay on your parents' good side!

Why does everyone always take pictures sooooo close to their cars? It's hard to get a feel for the look of the car when it fills up the whole frame.

What do you mean when you say you don't have HDR? HDR (High Dynamic Range) is an overused post processing technique, not a technology or piece of hardware. Maybe you mean SLR (Single Lens Reflex)? Would love to see photos of the car from further away. Was curious how this new color looked. Congrats on the new ride, enjoy it!

Ok well if HDR is a program to use after taking the picture, ive never used that before. And right, I dont use SLR, shits just way too expensive unless u take pics for a living.

Those pics were really just spur of the moment anyways and the lighting wasnt the greatest, so farther away ones wouldve blown. Hopefully soon we'll see a decent sunny day n I can detail her a bit and take sum nicer ones

Also, a lil off topic but since Im still getting used to the seating position in this car i figured id ask everyones opinion. Does anyone else feel they sit closer to the floor in this car in general? I mean I have my seat positioned up a good bit without making it to high or uncomfortable for me, and my legs are still pretty close to the floor. I personally think its the design and the face that this car is def closer to the ground and lower then my previous ride (mk5 gti) where the seats already sat a bit higher up from the floor, that and I didnt have auto seats in that car.

I actually think I like it more like this tbh, but its just different for me right now, I remember like when id be driving n cruise control in my gti, i could pull my left leg up n have my foot flat on the floor mat and my right foot too comfortably, whereas in this car I cant do that.

I do think ive found my niche seat position finally, its set to Mem. 1 and I think if I moved the whole seat up more it wouldnt be as comfy, etc. Im not necessarily a migit or anything either (5''11'' 185lb.) I also have the steering wheel pulled OUT as far as it goes and its comfy where im sitting at and so is the shifter for manual mode so.. just thought id share, anyone else wants to share their position and what they think go ahead

Hey on the topic of local 1ers, anybody in the harrisburg/central PA area have any good info on a very reputable, fast and respected shop that works either solely on euro cars or has great experience with bimmers? Just looking for down the road if and when I put on an exhaust and maybe n intercooler, just not something I think i can do on my own. Dont have a garage of my own (use parents garage 10 minutes away to do detailing), I can do smaller stuff DIYer but not bigger stuff that requires a jack or the car totally up in the air.
Well i'm taking my car to Sun Motors on Saturday morning for inspection. It was due in February but I didn't want to drive it in the mess we had here. Mine is a stock Alpine White/Black 135i.

As far as a local mechanic goes, since i've been in this area i've always taken my bimmers to Jack's Auto + Aero in Bainbridge. I found him in the local BMWCCA chapter newsletter. He is a very nice guy, does great work and knows a lot about BMW's. His shop is about 20 mins from Hershey right off 441 if you are heading south through Elizabethtown.

yea I actually just came upon their website just now as matter of fact, looks like a decent place. Have you had them do lots of diff kinds of aftermarket installation jobs? Gimme an idea of their prices? Also, you ever been to Creative Car tunes in Camp Hill, thats where I took my GTI for most of its mods..

Sounds like you have some good leads about the future of your Deep Sea Blue baby. Have fun!

Actually, I got my 128 out of storage today, thanks to my friend/mechanic/drinking buddy. It is in my garage, so at least I can look out the back door at it. I'll drive it a little until all the snow melts. It's just nice to have it back.

For me, it is equal distance to go your way, or head to Pittsburgh to find a mechanic.

Can't complain about Sun, though. Since I am retired, I'm wondering if they need a go-fer. I can move : )

In my past, I owned an '83 GTI (first year in the states-built in PA). I loved that car, and why didn't I keep it?

Cool man! So many pictures of old old gtis from back in the early 80's being rebuilt, etc. from the forums i used to use. The Mk3 R was the sexiest model of em all.

Wow, what a separation in years between the two of us, im 25 n ur retired

I say again I wish I had a garage to store my baby in overnight, etc. Hopefully soonish Ill be moving to whereever ill be moving to and find a place with a garage Im just taking her easy right now while its still colder temps, dont wanna fuck up the performance tires.

Well, I'm not 25, for sure. I'll be 57 in a month.

I was a HS teacher for 34 years, was married, raised two kids (who like cars), taught and coached both kids in high school, worked at various part-time jobs to help remodel the house, got dumped by the wife who married the remodeler (she got the house, I got my retirement).

So, I retired, and since I always tried to own a car I liked to drive, I bought my 128.

So, it took a very long time to own a brand of car I had always admired, but here I am. Since it was a long road to get there, I certainly appreciate it.

No doubt, when you look for another place, you will have a garage at the top of your list. It is nice to have one.

Well we both are happy with what we have, I just need a garage and a consistent girlfriend, and maybe a bit more money

Don't worry about the girlfriend part. Be particular in that regard, just as you would be particular with your car. In the long run, you will be happier.

No girlfriend is better than a bad one.

Thanks! That was my previous 1er from 10 years ago!

I just recently got a 2013 Mineral Gray 135i. 37k miles, overall in great condition, I do very much miss the Deep sea blue though, I'd say this gray is the close second for the 135i

Just a few small ones to date. Replaced oe intake filter with oiled cotton, RPI aluminum intake scoops, matte black grills. That's it, I'm fixing a few scratches and some blemishes from where the front plate once was ..

If Scott Taylor ever gets back to me with an invoice I'll likely pull the plug on a maddad whisper axle-back, mayyyyybe with the mids.

Only other things I'm considering is the 28mm front sway, I'd go back to the M3 upgrade but it's basically $350 for the bmw one vs $190 for a 28mm Eibach so not sure. I guess the M3 bar is solid? I know I had it on my previous 1er and loved it.
