BTW, the second link also shows diesel features - common rail injection, variable vane turbos.
say it isn't so! No dipstick would really be a deal breaker for me. As brutal as that sounds, I just can't own a car without a way to manually check the oil.

If only the diesels get dipsticks, I would then want the 123d over the 135i for sure.

Well, we may not be able to check the level manually, but we can still dip a finger down the 'oil fill' bung to get a whiff of the earl and a look at its color.

Can't see whya dipstick would matter. Just so you KNOW what level your oil is at..? Whats the point of that..?

The only think you need to know is when it gets too low. Thats all that matters!

I've been completely paranoid of oil level after going through towing a Toyota FJ40 out of the middle of Pritchett Canyon in Moab, and rebuilding the engine because of oil problems. No oil light came on, it just ground to a halt without enough oil. Needless to say, I don't trust lights to keep me from destroying an engine. Now I am anal about checking the oil at almost every fill-up, instead of every few months.

I recognize that not everybody has experienced what it takes to get a vehicle with a dead engine out of Pritchett Canyon, so I understand that not everyone shares my paranoia, but that's the way I feel. Even for a road car that will never get anywhere near Pritchett.

Just getting a whiff and a look at the color isn't enough for me.

w/ stock boost levels the turbos should surpass 150k miles... Remember that the water pump runs after shut down preventing coaking. Whether the motor makes it that far has yet to be determined.
