Advise for buying a used 135i

Hi Guys,
I've been contemplating buying a 135i Coupe for some time and finally I have a budget for this so I'm selling my Smart Roadster Brabus and going for it!

I was wondering if anybody had good advice what to check or any common issues that I could try and pick up when I go view and test one. I have about 14k max which means I'll probably have to settle with a 08/09 model with about 50,000-60,000 miles. With this ages is there any major servicing parts I need to check the history for? Cam-belt, aux-belts etc.

I read somewhere that earlier models were single turbo? Is this true and if so how can I identify a single turbo model from the twin turbo ones?

I'm aware of the high pressure fuel pump issues on these cars, Can anybody let me know roughly how much are we taking to get this fixed if I didn't take out a warranty?

All advice welcomed!

Other way around.

The first cars are twin turbo (N54 engine) which will be the cars you are looking at.

This engine was replaced by the single turbo (N55 engine) in March 2010.

Hi I drive an 08 335i the main thing the check is that the water pump and cambelt have been replaced, also hpfp are always failing on this engine... Turbos fail quite a lot aswell, this is a high maintenance engine to be honest. Just make sure the previous owner has kept up with services and it has been well looked after.

It's a cam chain so should be fine. Full history of course. I would advise getting the intake valves cleaned at that sort of mileage. It's not a service requirement but it should be. Ive put a post up about it. Will cost around 300 quid from an indy. HPFP software update should have been done by bmw. Mines done 70k now and no problems to report.

I was originally going 335i and still might.

335i saloon/touring

However I'm similar to you thinking 135i. Think I'd be after a 59/10 plate to replace my 09 R32.

Have put feelers out Birds and rec 16-17k. Time will tell.

I had 123d prior to my R32 and find winter grip bad, so think LSD could also be on the cards.
