E90 2011 Wet Carpet

Hey guys, I’m losing my mind with a water leak on my 2011 BMW E90 328xi.

Driver side floor gets wet after rain or a car wash, mostly near the door sill / left footrest area. The area under the pedals is not as wet.

I already checked and cleaned the cowl drains under the windshield, water drains normally there.

I also tried pouring water on the window/door, but I don’t see any obvious water coming from the door panel.

One thing I noticed is that the upper part of the driver door panel doesn’t sit perfectly flush against the door.

No wet headliner or A-pillar, so I’m not sure if it’s the sunroof drain.

Could this still be a vapor barrier issue even without visible water coming from the door panel? Or should I look at the cabin filter housing / windshield seal instead?

A spot that commonly leaks there is the hood release line grommet. I would go ahead and peel back your carpet up by the pedals and take a look. Often times, especially if the hood release has felt tough lately, this grommet is pulled and water enters and ends up flooding your floor. You can either replace the grommet or reinforce with a silicone.
