I told myself when I bought the 1er that it would be the last new car for a while (came from an 06 Civic Si). It seems that a BIG wrench has been thrown into my plan.

And I apologize, I usually read the whole thread, but I'm late for work. So if this has been asked I apologize, but does anyone think that this extra customization is BMW's way of dealing with the fact that a standard 135i can be more or less modified into the meat and potatoes of an M1?

^^^Thats a good point...but I wonder if the sheet metal on the new model is going to so drastically different that we will not be able to put it on our existing models as well...

I think it's two things,

a) To make it worthwhile for 135 owners to upgrade
b) To make more money

From whats been posted on here it sounds as though the M1 will follow the style of the E46 M3. This will mean wider fenders and wider front and rear bumpers. It will look a lot more aggressive in my opinion. The E46 M3 had a wider stance than the other E46 models and it was very subtle at the same time.

If BMW prices its accessories and carbon fiber parts like it has for the S1000RR, you will end up with a $100K fully optioned M1.

If this were true, and prices got that high, it would likely suggest BMW wants it to be the new benchmark sports car. (Suceeding the M3) But, since they have already stated that it is to provide an additional M to cover all levels of customers, I highly doubt that will be the case.

Also reinforce their plan to offer OEM performance upgrades. Selling a pair of carbon fiber mirror cap for $500, interior trim for $1300 have to be more lucrative than selling a car. Virtually cost free after sales. No free maintenance or any warranty to claim.

It may vary depending on the amount of flare. The E92 M3's flared fenders isn't as dramatic as the E46 M3's compared to their proletarian brothers.

I just dont understand when is this thing supposed to come out. Current one-series is already an outdated car. If announcements are coming out now, it may take them 2 years to bring this to the market. Or are they planning to bring the new version out?

However, guys dont get overexcited. 1 series is a very heavy car. If they put M components on the car, even with carbon parts on, the car wont be aby lighter than the current 135i.

And honestly, the direction BMW is going...I may skip it for my next car. Instead of focusing to fix the breaks, making a light sporty car, they are focusing on emblems and interior colours....what a shame.

When I read that "Competition" package came out and "stop-start" is an option...i felt like started crying. Is that what M3 is supposed to be ?

These M Cars (M1, M3, M3 GTS, M5, M6, X5/6 M) are the normal ones. But BMW M is also working on the M1 GTR. It is based on the 1 Series Coupé and has the NA 2.0l I4 from the BMW 320si WTCC. On this M1 GTR there won't be any air bags, door pannels, powered side windows, nothing at all. There will be only two carbon seats, one alcantara steering wheel and windsceen cleaners and lights. It will only be available in Alpin White.

Specs:
NA 2.0l I4
275 Hp @ 8.300 rpm
242 Nm @ 7.250 rpm
Redline: 8.500 rpm
Weight: 1020 kg (DIN)
6MT with carbon clutch
Carbon Airbox
2 Reacaro carbon seats (without badge)
carbon steering wheel
only Alpin White
18" BBS with central lock (optional)
Yokohama sliks
Brembo CCB (without badge)
street legal
Arrival: 6 months after M1

I would wish your words come true. But I highly doubt NA 2.0L engine will come out for a street use with 275bhp. Even if it does....the warranty will never work for 100.000km. They should rather focus on a stock M1 car, but put it down to around 1300kg and put finally some proper brakes. Single piston sliding calipers are disgrace already!

lol 275hp inline 4. I wish that would be a dream come thru. WTCC engine are taken apart after a certain running hour and i can tell you that s far far from 100.000 km.

But he we can dream about such car for the road.

But you can buy such car already it called 320si and it cost s about 200.000 euro ex vat from bmw motorsport it s not road legal.

That sounds amazing.
Too bad even if it were released on the streets, how do you think it would pass safety into North America if the M3 GTS couldn't do it feasibly?

We're talking about a car coming without air bags, carbon seats, slicks.. They would have to almost ruin the car just to get it here, lol.

10 years ago Honda started selling a 2.0L making 247 hp for street use, 275 hp from BMW doesn't sound too far fetched.

Either way, I'm excited about the M1 and the options we'll have to choose from. Too bad my wife is convinced we'd be better off with an E90 M3, just have to change her mind.

Just me, but I tend to think the darker blues just tend to work well on the shape of the 1er.

With that said, I really love LeMans Blue....but I also wonder how Avus blue would look. Remenicent of the 1995 e36 M3.

If the M1 is at the Geneva auto show, it will be in either Sedona Red, Alpine White, or black.
