MHD - Tablet mount options/ set up

Hey Gents

I am running MHD and have been for awhile, only used my tablet for flashing and reading codes but finally decided to buy the gauges to attempt to do some logs (Which I am still trying to figure out how to do it haha).

Having the k+Dcan cable running from the OBD over my steering wheel and onto my lap with the tablet or on the passenger seat is pretty annoying and looks really messy!

Can I ask how everyone else has it set up?
Pictures of your set up would be appreciated or any advice would be great

Cheers

Sadly no pics at the moment, but all it would show is the end of the cable by the ashtray.

I picked up an OBDII adapter so I could route the cable behind the kick panel and keep the cover in place. The cable runs up and over to the center console. Hidden unless I want to use it, and when needed I can still disconnect the adapter from the OBD port and use the Carly adapter or whatever, tho carly has been working fine via the cable too.

This is the adapter I got- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EECXAY8/

The K+DCan cable MHD recommends from bimmer software is plenty long enough, no worries there, and I'd suspect others are as well.

Thanks for that!

Might be another great way to run the cable to make it look neat

Snapped a couple quick pics of my setup, maybe it'll help spur some additional input from some other folks for ya!

The cable I linked earlier at the OBDII port, showing plenty of slack for other connections. You can see how small the plug is. It easily fits under the cover and is plenty long enough to extend over the kick panel to connect with the K+Dcan cable.

The other end appears by the ashtray, under the center console. I typically connect my phone for MHD logging. The phone, Samsung Galaxy S5, perfectly wedges between the bottom lip of the ashtray and the door (lid? cover? whatever...)

Plenty easy to connect a tablet. Would be just as easy to have an actual mount in the cd opening or whatever too.

Is it pretty intuitive how to route the cable from the OBD port behind the cover? From the P3 cars install guide, you just pop off the hood release to gain access behind the cover. Then how'd you route the cable through the center console?

It was really simple. I was pulling the center console off to clean my sticky A/C and radio buttons, so that gave really easy access to get the wire into the console and over/down to where I wanted it to come out by the ashtray. It was only another few minutes to pull the kick panel and bottom cover to open everything up.

I did use the P3 pdf for the steps to open up the side & lower panel
http://www.p3cars.com/content/pdf/e8x-car.pdf

The A/C & Radio controls pull right out, and then just 4 screws hold the brains in place. With those out of the way you could hide a dead body back there...

I was tinkering with it this morning, and have a bunch of pics pulling the center stack out I can post later on.

tossed a post into the DIY section about my process for radio & A/C control removal basics. Following what's included in that post, there are only four screws that hold the radio brains in place opening up the cavity shown in the pic above.
