Yeah i went private. He is now semi-retired and is racing, so he has semi-closed books. I asked him last week if he can do the service on my car and he said he'd check. 5 minutes later he came out and said yes, just needed to get my oil of choice.

So dropped the car off this morning to him. I came back 2.5 hours later and he was just finishing up. Oil, filter, air, everything done as it should at 30,000km, and my brakes were 30% front, 35% rears so said i should get them done very soon.

Anyway, i was quietly thinking to myself if the price would compare to BMW's services.

$152.

Bavarian Money Works, they're killing us.

Mark has always serviced our cars to our timetables - i needed to be in the city today at 1pm and he was finished at 11:30am, plenty of time for me to go in. I simply went and had breakfast, coffee and read the paper while doing a little bit of work as the car was serviced.

$152. Done.
Do you mind PM me the name and contact of your mechanic?

All done Not sure if he will service though. He seems to be only servicing very long-term customers, but just say i sent you and should be great.

I'm sure he'd love to see a 335. He is really passionate about his work and has been around cars for years, having built his own track V8s for a very very long time. Last time I was in (before this week's service), he had a shell VL Commodore he was converting to a full trackie. It was just WOW.

Ab-sol-utely full of sarcasm. The rest of the civilised world laughs at the stupid money we pay here. Why do we, mostly silently, "lie down" and accept it? As much as I like my 135 I'd probably prefer the M3 or 911 I may be able to afford for similar money in the US.

Thanks for the PM! But I just realise you are in Sydney

Just to share what I have been quoted by dealers:
My CBS indicated I need to replace/service 3 things:
Brake fluid
Engine oil/filter
Air filter.

I have been quoted by Bundoora BMW $700.
I have been quoted by Doncaster BMW Approx $600 (approximately as they don't give me a precice quote, he says bring the car in and we will see).
I have been quoted by Southbank BMW $495.

It is self explanatory where I am taking my car to.

Iam thinking i might take my car to motonet at eagle farm they quoted around $300 for 25000 service and i can nominated the oil to use as well mobil or castrol etc. Better than $700 plus from dealer

First service on my car was @ 10,000Km, when the service light came on.
I think it was relative to the fact that it was 12 months old rather than the milage though and as I told them I had already done an oil change @ 7,500 myself, so no oil change was required. Everything else normal to a service light on checked for total of $150.

Try to negotiate with them over the service price mate. I have found that generally the place you buy your car from will take care of you better in terms of service pricing, spare parts, etc.

On a side note, i never knew that CBS shows the time for replacement of the air filter. Mine certainly doesn't show it. I remember reading somewhere on E90post that US cars show things like spark plugs as well?

I've found checking what parts are needed in advance and supplying those to BMW tends to work well + you still get the BMW service stamp in your book.

Most parts (filters, plugs etc) you can get from the UK for a fraction of what it costs here, for instance the microfilter is about $150 from BMW Aus vs 14 GBP from the UK, spark plugs 5.48 GBP, oil filters 7.00 + freight. As long as you plan ahead it's pretty easy.

I'd be interested to hear how you go with them chappy. They're just around the corner from where I work in Eagle Farm. My first service is due in August. This is two years after the build date and 22 months (& probably 13,000km) after I picked mine up. I've already changed the oil & filter twice myself.

Correct, i-drive doesn't show air filter. How I found out was I took the key to the dealer, and from just the key they can tell you what needs replacing.

I have my second service (60,000km) in September. Very scared about what it's going to cost at the dealer here in Belgium. They quoted me 1200€ for new tyres so I got them somewhere else for 700€. Maybe I should ask around for service quotes...

Are your local BMW dealerships okay with fitting genuine OEM bmw parts that you source yourself? I always wanted to do this but wasn't sure if they would.

They have not complained yet, just ensure your SA is informed and leave then on the passenger seat.

Whilst I haven't tried it with a BMW dealer, i nearly always buy the parts my Alfa needs before the service and let them know when i drop it off. As long as the parts are genuine, they don't mind at all and still warranty both the parts and their labour They will still fit non genuine parts however no warranty on them obviously.

It works out a shitload cheaper to buy the parts before hand

Yep - best way to do it. My mechanic got some for me, but will supply with mine from now on as well. I just feel more comfortable having a stash of oil for safekeeping (on top of the litre i keep in the boot).

Has anyone tried Peak Performance in Sydney Parramatta? He has been servicing BMWs for years... He has quoted me 360 for oil change service at 25000 (the service light has come up and he said thats the only thing that needs to be done given the age of my car -8 months old)

Why go to peak when most Sydney BMW dealers will change oil and filter for approx $185 to $240. Just ring some of the local dealers for a quote. Sylvania charged me $185 for the oil and filter replacement.
