If your car is heading to the New Jersey port then you should also track the Mignon. She's docked in Bremerhaven right now and is scheduled to leave today! I was hoping to get another update today from my CA however he's out of the office until Friday
And finally, before the skies get dark in Bimmer-heaven, here's the Mignon docked to the right of the Cygnus Leader (part of the NYK fleet). The Patriot is being blocked by the Cygnus. |

Going to Baltimore...
My car is going to Baltimore. I haven't heard from my CA in a few days so I'll keep checking the 800 number and the Wallenius Wilhelmsen website using my VIN as the Cargo ID.

Here is my most exciting update! I just got an email from my CA minutes ago and he confirmed that my car is on the Patriot! The ship left Bremerhaven yesterday and she's current in the English Channel on her way to Southamton. I have a feeling there will be a few more 135's on that boat as well.

Uh oh, it looks like the Patriot turned around for some reason. She looked to be about 50-70 miles outside of Southampton, turned around, and is now headed the other way!

On the Tristan
Using the Wallenius Wilhelmsen cargo tracking query I discovered this morning that my car is on the Tristan which departed Bremerhaven sometime yesterday and is due in Baltimore on 12/8. Thaddy, which website are you using for ship tracking?

I started using www.marinetraffic.com until the ship went out of range. Right now www.sailwx.info doesn't have any updates from the Patriot though, so I'll just have to keep checking. I'm hoping early next week I can use Marine Traffic once it gets closer to the east coast.
Right now W&W has the arrival set to 12/8, however my dealer says 12/7 and the ship was actually showing an arrival of 12/5 before she went out of range in the Celtic Sea. edit: I see the Tristan is pretty close to being out of radio range! Last edited by Thaddy; 11-29-2010 at 09:13 AM.. |

I have been tracking my Z4 which got to Baltimore on the Talisman today, and thought I would mention that sailwx will take you to some point off the VA eastern shore before cutting out. A few hours later, the ship will pop up on marinetraffic.com near VA Beach, and will give sporadic coverage up through the Chesapeake Bay. It seems to vary ship to ship. The Talisman only showed coverage up part of the bay, then 12 hours later -- viola! -- it was in Baltimore, with a big straight line (cutting through land no less) on the map. I was hoping to track it into the dock, but no such luck this time. Within the port of Baltimore, it has docked at two different terminals so far. The Fairfield/Masonville terminal is where BMWs get off the boat.

I'm not so sure about that. MarineTraffic is already picking up the Tristan which is due on Baltimore on the 8th. It looks like she's taken a different route and is just south of St. Johns heading towards Halifax. Probably just behind the Patriot, but much closer to the coast line.

I am sure it varies ship to ship, but may ultimately depend on where the ships came across the Atlantic. I was watching several W-W ships last weekend. One took a northern route that brought it down the US coast and it showed up on marinetraffic. The Talisman shot straight into the Atlantic between England and France, taking a more direct route across, and didn't get close to the US coast until hit Virginia Beach. I believe they factor weather and the cruise speed of the ship into the choice of routes. Speaking of weather, those of use who just got cars or have cars en route on the boat got lucky to escape Europe before all that snow and stormy weather hit. I hear it impacted shipping port operations, and ships were delaying or routing around the storm as it came into the region. It would suck to have a weather delay hold your car back after all the other factors!

Patriot Course
I saw the Patriot on MarineTraffic.com yesterday morning off of Newfoundland. This morning the Tristan, which is a day behind, past Newfoundland and has now gone out of range. I think they are taking the same course. They may not be in range again until close to the the MD/VA coast.

I was hoping for a tracking update this morning but unfortunately Sailwx hasn't been updated and the Patriot is still out of radio range to be tracked by MarineTraffic. ETA is tomorrow, so I'm sure she's right off of the Maryland coast.

Cool, I know the excitement! It's sort of funny the way the ship just materializes off VA Beach in marinetraffic's tracking, but that means you're indeed down to a matter of hours at this point. With luck, you should have your car by Friday or Saturday. Keep us posted!
