Yeah, that was a few years after I bought mine...it's one of the reasons you don't hear much about Eisenmann now. If mine's a knockoff, they did a damn good job, polished from one end to the other, 10 years after (no pun), still shines like a mirror...and the sound...just nothing like it...of course, I did have a little trouble with the fit.....

Got the Chinese knockoff Remus dual tips installed...had to do some minor plastic surgery cause the tips were kinda wide...came out nice, I think....definitely looks better with the dual tips.

I think they were $100 shipped free from Hong Kong, on ebay....

Here's a side view with the new Enkei Lusso wheels...the 6 piston brake kit is here...just have to install it.

I'm trying to decide on a way to quiet my exhaust down. I like how loud it is but it draws too much attention and isn't fun when i'm trying to lay low or not be noticed(IE, back roads).

I think i'm going to eventually have my resonator section welded back on and just swap to the 135i muffler. That should get rid of a lot of the rasp i have too. Good thing i kept it.

Can't even imagine how loud your car is through back streets haha. I'm already getting neighbors complaining with the reso delete and 135i muffler..
Get the reso welded back on or try the standard 128i muffler, would be something different

Did you find one that didn't require too much work to make it work? It's really not that loud under 3k, but at 4k it just starts to scream and it makes me sound like I'm driving faster than i am

I went to a performance exhaust shop who fitted one up in about 1 hour in total. The pipe is about 500mm in total length bent in a "J" and capped in one end. About 1.5inch in diameter. The difference for me is that the car still has the deep tough sound and the crackling and popping sounds but just toned down. It still howls when you give it heaps.

OK so I've been looking at the 3 series forums about modifying the factory muffler to improve sound.

The concept is pretty straight forward, and wouldn't take too long to do. Question is....

Is it worth my time? I want a slightly better sounding exhaust note, and the pops and burbles of throttle. I don't want an exhaust like Berk or Magnaflow, they seem to loud to me, and the BMW PE would be a good option, but it's pricy.

I was thinking if I opened the muffler up, replaced the perforated piping with sealed pipe, and elminate the exhaust flapper, it would do about the same as a PE but for the cost of pipe and welding gas. I'm looking for options here.

Is the BMW performance exhaust too loud?
Will it piss off my neighbors? (not that i care, just don't want the MP's called on me again)
I like the idea of the modified muffler idea, but if it's a better option to get the PE i will go that direction. Thoughts?

If you got the cash go PE, it's definitely not too loud, pretty tame imo but hits the spot.
If not, just go for a resonator delete, cheap and definitely adds a bit of crackle/burble to the exhaust when you ease off the throttle.

Stick with the PE. Chopping and welding the stock exhaust will significantly compromise your rust proofing and cause the exhaust to rot out super quickly. It might be ok in California, but in a place like Germany that gets snow and salt it's a terrible idea.

WHS.

There are many people that have cut open OEM exhausts and removed packing to improve sound with minimal results.

Exception to that is E36M, but the muffler design back then is alot different than what it is now. You'll basically have to weld straight through pipes within the OEM muffler to gain anything, and at that point you should of just removed the muffler to being with

Good choice. It is a solid unit made to the same standards as stock, which few parts actually are.
