Does anyone use their phone to record at the track?

Specifically asking about the Note 3, which is what I have. I ran into someone who used a iphone with a fish eye (maybe?) lens to record his AutoX runs

I dont feel like pulling the trigger on the newest GoPro4 or even Hero3

Every offbrand goprolike recorder I try to buy ends up being garbage, probably could have just bought a GoPro with the money wasted...

Trying to make due with what I got currently.

What mount, app (if you used a special one), and lens (if there are any) do you use/recommend?

Thanks!

I use the BMW M Lap timer that's used with ConnectedDrive Apps, and I love it. Gives you GPS, G-force with throttle and brake position as well as RPM's.

I dont have iDrive :/

Sorry, I meant does anyone use their phone as a camcorder/gopro (mounted inside the car) and if there was any lens or apps that 'help' rather than using the default camera app.

Yes. Use Harry's lap timer app and get a ram mount to hang from windshield

I use Race Chrono Pro, very similar to Harry's Lap Timer, but geared for Android on a Samsung Note 5 (stock camera) to record sessions and video. See the link below. I recommend turning the GPS settings to the most sensitive or buying an external Bluetooth GPS unit. There are features that allow you to overlay gopro/ external video with gauges. One final comment also buy a Bluetooth obd reader to get rpms and throttle position sensors to display in the video.

Sample video:

Thanks

I have MHD now, so it might be tough to use another OBD2 reader lol

The critical part is going to be the phone mount. I tried to use my normal suction cup mount which appeared to be stable, but it wasn't stable enough and the video looked like garbage. Harry's LapTimer is the app I used which was awesome.

I have a LG V10 and a Slip Grip.
I can't get the mount out of the picture frame. The mount itself is great; stable and fits exact to my Otterbox.

So I would stay away form this phone mount for video.
