Noise after the car is off.

After i drive and put her in the garage i hear a noise.

After i pull the key and get out with garage down i can here a hum from the right front area.

Is it like the oil or water pump continue to run after the car is off?
Its not the engine fan its quieter.
I havent stayed out in the garage to see how long it runs yet.
Any ideas?

also does your automatic PARK light always stay on forever on the gearshift lever?

I hear this same noise, but have never thought of it as a problem. Any ideas?

Yes.....I believe the car doesn't turn off entirely until it goes into "sleep" mode after 10 minutes or so. Every time I park in my garage, upon entering the house from the garage - I look back and can see the illuminated P on the gear selector.

If you ever sit in the car with the ignition off for about 10 minutes, you will hear all sorts of weird sounds as it shuts down into sleep mode.

As far as the humming sound....not sure. I know I got one from the front passenger area while the ignition was still on and it turned out to be the fans to cool the ECU!

But if the ignition is off, it might be the water pump as I believe it is electronic and it is also used to cool the turbos if they are still hot once the engine is shut off.

Pretty sure it's been decided this is the water pump circulating coolant through the turbos.

Garage List
That sounds correct. The water pump cools the turbos down after you shut off the engine.

Our car makes all kinds of noises. I get up early sometimes and work on my bikes in the garage. I heare noises coming from the 135i and it had been turned off for ten hours. Sometimes my 135i will make a noise and my Tacoma responds with a noise :iono:. I do know the noise that sounds like a pump every few hours is pressurizing the gas tank for some emission control reason. I had a tag on the shift level that explained it when I bought the Tacoma. I also hear clunks from the 135i about every half hour.

Soon it will be like the movie Transformers. These things will wake in the night, rummage through our homes and neighborhoods looking for the allspark to defend against Megatron. Think of the 1er as your own personal Bumble Bee.
