intake question

Hey guys I recently ordered my tune from active Autowerke for my N51 and I was wondering if a AFE intake would add power with the tune? I use to have a AFE intake on my car but it threw a check engine light and said the car was running to lean and cut power so I reverted back to stock. So I'm wondering now that I'm getting a tune instead of cutting power will I gain power adding the intake back or is it not worth adding it on? I always have heard stories of people running drop in filters instead from K&N and charcoal filter delete.
