Reviving this thread. I've used Techron Fuel System Cleaner now and then. I've never noticed that the recommended use is no more that 2x between oil changes. Has anyone noticed that and/or know why?
"To keep the entire fuel system clean, use Techron Concentrate Plus, Complete Fuel System Cleaner, every 3,000 miles (4,800 km) or at scheduled oil change intervals, not to exceed twice per oil change." https://www.chevronlubricants.com/en...m-cleaner.html

Suspect the issue with multiple uses is that Techron is composed of some aggressive solvents and detergents that are meant to clean gasoline and exhaust deposits. So they have to be strong. Which is ok if one does not expose some things (like fuel system gaskets) to an overabundance of the solvent.
Remember when alcohols (methanol & ethanol) started to move into the fuel stream? People started to see gaskets and non-metal fuel lines decompose. |

I actually saw a BMW bulletin saying that fuel system cleaner should be used on a particular DI engine every oil change. Will have to find the bulletin, can't remember which engine it is. |

This discussion gives some insight into how Techron and other PEA's work and the logic for an oil change after a strong dose:
