What's goiong on with allocations?
I spoke to two dealers (in New England) who each have about a dozen cars on first allocation, and then to three others who have just a couple of cars (to be used as demonstrators). The latter group is tgelling me I could expect my 135i delivery in the May-June time frame.
What happened with 1-series dealer allocations? It would seem not all dealers got cars from the first allocation. Unfortunately, I have a deposit with one of the latter dealars and am wondering if I should try to get it back and place it with a dealer who can give me a February production number. A bit of advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Nobody seems to know the strategy/reasoning behind BMW NA's dealer allocations. Most think it is dealer sales, with large dealers getting first tier allocations.

I had a talk with the dealer, who admitted they only got 2 cars in the first allocation and are hoping for a few more with March-April build dates. They did say that if a dealer doesn't have production numbers, they do not have first-allocation cars at this time. So, if you don't have a production number, you gotta wait a few more months for your car.
They refunded my deposit, and I was able to get a production number from BMW Gallery in Norwood, MA. So I'm still in the game for a first-allocation car. |

josh, congrats!! When did that occur? I'm assuming yesterday afternoon? I'm going through the Gallery in Norwell, have a few calls into my CA, who had assured me I'd be in initial allocation, yet I still haven't gotten my call back with production number.

My dealer got 3 allocations initially, and claims that his next allocation is going to come mid-late january... It's based on dealer annual sales. The claim for the 2nd allocation is a delivery around late march early spring... I'm hoping that's the case!

Just to back up Josh's experience:
Spoke to two local BMW dealers. One is hopeful for a May/June customer delivery for their first car. The other, a busier dealer, is delivering at least three cars in the first week of April. If I order with them now, they may be able to get me a car by first week of April. The two dealers are about 20 miles apart. It's all about dealer volume. BMW will take care of the larger dealerships first. I'm going with the "slower" dealer, for a number of reasons. But if you want the car sooner, it definitely helps to shop around. |

This is like Xbox360 and PS3 all over again. They are letting them out at a tiny rate like this on purpose to increase demand! Its retarded; I want my frikkin' production number already.
