I don't know how it'll be on the 1er, but on the new MINI it's a small black button on the handle that you push to unlock/lock.

We have the comfort access on our 335I and I like the customization you get per fob. My fob and my wifes fob have different configs. Seats, mirrors, radio presets, what happens at approach to the car (Unlock driver door, unlock all) door lock after entry.. the list is too long. Even the owners manual did not cover all the configs. We also have the idrive so that is how we configured everything.

The top of the door handle. It really is a very simple operation, and quite, quite convenient when you get used to it. Also, if you leave your finger on the door handle for a bit longer when locking the car, it will also close the windows/sunroof.

As someone who likes to keep their keyfob in the change pocket of their jeans/khakis (yup, casual dress every day at work for me!), I truly enjoy this feature and became accustomed to it very quickly.

And although we don't have a lot of inclement weather in SoCal, it still is convenient to be able to dash to the car in rain/etc and open the car by touching the handle rather than fumbling for the keyfob. I would imagine that it would be extremely useful in snowy places as well. (Don't have to worry about gloves pushing the wrong button!)

The thing that annoys me is the locking of the doors. If you try to do it fast it doesnt lock and you have to go back. And yes, you have to put your fingers on top of the door handle to lock it, and it doesnt happen instantly, it takes a second so its a pain.

I've also heard that washing the car is funny if you have the fob on your person.

I do not tell them that it has CA.. I just place the key fob in the dash, like it does not have CA... They will never know.

ALSO! You should take the metal key out of the CA Key Flob.. thus IF they (Valet, or anyone) loose your key fob, you can use the key to access the car, insert into the extra "casing" in the glove box, insert into the dash and DRIVE...

When I leave the car at the dealer I just unlock and remove the metal key which also had my house keys on the ring, leaving them only the fob

BMW did a great job thinking CA and the key flob out.!

Will never be without Comfort Access.. The most liked and used option on my 330xi.

Hold my finger on the handles watching the windows shut and Sunroof shut and mirrors fold.. I KNOW the car is locked when the mirrors fold in.:headbang::headbang:

OK, you are making it sound pretty cool actually and that a mishap would be pretty rare. How much was the option on the 330xi?

I thought the fob always had to be with you, but if you can still use the hidden key without it, program the other fob to already have different seat configs and all that happens automatically when you walk up, and it is only $500. I think you sold me.

can you still lock the car with the fob as you exit, as opossed to holding your hand on top of door handle?

I highly recommend the comfort access!!! My wife just got a 335i Convertible and the Confort Access is her favorite 'accesory' of the car. By the way...she loves this car and has NO dislikes (she had been driving a 2002, 325Cic). But, I still can't wait to get my 135i with COMFORT ACCESS, AW, Terra interior, Premium Pack, Sports Pack and ipod adaptor, tinted windows.

So how do you unlock/lock the doors if you DONT have comfort access? Do you just push a button on the fob like most any other car?

Ya, it's pretty stupid, I didn't need to do that on my 4-cylinder Altima rental. Just get in and push the start button. Ah, just another way for BMW to nickel and dime us with options. That said, comfort access is one of the few options I'd pay for on the 1 series.

You insert the key into the hole so the battery gets recharged while you drive. Even with it inserted you still have to press the start button.

I read (but I don't remember where) that unlike standard BMW fob, CA fob does not include a rechargeable battery and that there is no slot in a CA car to recharge it. You have to replace the battery when depleted.

Anyway, ask me next week, by then Santa will have already handled to me the fob of my 135i.

Ho! Ho! Ho! And congratulations on your 135. Like you, I've read that CA fobs do not use rechargeable batteries.

I was just at the dealer and tried out CA on a 335i coupe. Personally I don't think it's worth the $500... But I did ask about the battery and my dealer said that even with CA you occasionally had to insert the fob into the dash to charge it. He showed me the slot on the dash, which is in the same place if you don't have CA.
