Agree...I could buy a 335 or an M3 now.
The main factor for my choice is the smaller size....135 is right for my needs (desires) |

i don't understand why so many people fail to understand this. i am not buying a 135 because i can't quite afford a 335. i'm buying a 135 because i prefer it to the 335. simple as that. money is not the issue.

I am one of the few on this board that falls on the borderline of affording a 335. So this question is viable for me, but even if they were the same price, I do like the smaller car better. I will be out the door at 43k for the 135 with options I want, I would have to be below invoice or pretty darn close to invoice for a 335 with the stuff I want. My only concern is with the different stereos, I have heard good things about logic 7 I am hoping the 135 can offer a good quality sound as well.

I would definitely go with the 1-Series in that comparison. But if I were to buy a 335, it would be a 335xi Sedan. And I wouldn't deck either of them out with all those extras.
My 335xi Sedan Base MSRP$40,800 Crimson Red$0 Beige Leatherette$0 Light Poplar Natural wood trim$0 Cold Weather Package$850 Destination & Handling:$775 Total MSRP as Built$42,425 VS my 135i Base MSRP$34,900 Crimson Red$0 Taupe Leatherette$0 High Gloss Black Trim$0 Heated front seats$500 Destination & Handling:$775 Total MSRP as Built$36,175 But even with those changes from your poll, it's still a no brainer for me. It's the 135i hands down. Of course what I really want is a 123d coupe through ED. Assuming a 123d coupe has an MSRP and options similar to the 128i, here is what that would be: Base MSRP$28,600 Crimson Red$0 Taupe Leatherette$0 High Gloss Black Trim$0 Heated front seats$500 Destination & Handling:$775 Total MSRP as Built$29,875 This is my true winner! At this point the only way I could see myself buying a 3-series would be if I got a screaming deal on a used one that I absolutely couldn't pass up. A brand new 335 just isn't on my list anymore at all. Well, to be honest, a brand new 3-Series never was on my list to buy new. Used is all I can justify for the money spent on a 3-series. The 1-Series opens the door for me to buy new. It is either an ED of a 135i or 123d at ED wholesale + $1,250-$1,500 or I don't buy a BMW. I might not end up buying a BMW the way it is looking now, with the rumors of how ED will be handled. Unless things change when the 2009 MY cars come out, it's looking grim for me. |

Tougher choice for me will be a M coupe out the door for 44k vs. 135i at MSRP and tax at 44k.

And how abt guys like me that want the 135i because of performance and size but because the 135i is not being allocated any time soon for European Delivery I am now also considering the 335i because of better looks IMO and the fact that I can order it with European Delivery (saving $4,500 on the 335i). Thus price difference isnt an issue anymore (even if it were before ED msrp). Darn, BMW advertises ED for the 135i with savings of $2,500 and then they pull the plug on the whole 135i ED program by not allocating any cars to this. If I wait for the 135i to be available for ED who knows when that might be?! August of 2008? Next model year?

I just do not like the 335i. Wierd when the alien thing hands you the seatbelt. Dash seems very Japanese to me. I really like the running gear though. If they would just put it in a smaller package with a cleaner dash. :w00t:
