ordering process question
I've got a deposit with a dealer. They wouldn't place my order for some reason. I told them if the order wasn't placed and I don't receive a production number by XX/XX/XX then I would take my business elsewhere.
So they have now given me a production number but I get the distinct impression they haven't actually put my order in the system. They say I should check BMW Owner's Circle in February. Anyone have any thoughts on what's going on here? At first I thought they were bumping me for other customers but now that they have given me a # it seems strange not to actually place the order. Anyone have any ideas why a dealer may do this? I'm not sure what to do now. Just hang tight or move on? thank you!

You should be able to register/track your production # here:

the way i understand things a production number doesn't correspond to a build date ... it is just an allocation. so theoretically a very low production number could be built very late depending on when it was actually submitted. am i wrong?

FWIW, when I placed my order, my dealer informed me that the production number would not be available until Jan, but called back the next day with the production number. So your dealer maybe telling the truth. Ask them to email you a copy of the Vehicle Inquiry Report they used in sending your order to BMW AG, if they can't furnish that info, then you might want to get a refund from them.

Is your car "on order" when you go to oc.bmwusa.com? Then it should be in the system.
I think when they submit an order, they were waiting from the production # from Germany. I got mine 3 days after I visited the dealer. What's your production # range btw? Are you above or below 3903xxx? |
