no acceleration and oil temperature

Got two questions for y'all. I tried using search function.

1)
My fluid [not sure if it oil or coolant] temperature usually rises just below the 250° marker. Recently it looks like it's only reaching 200. (Your thought?)

2)
Traveling highway speeds 60~70mph, then looking to make a pass, press the accelerator pedal, Dct transmission shows downshift to 4th, engine rpm reads 3,000 to 4,000, but car is not accelerating (your thought?)

Thanks

Sounds like the car is in limp mode. Have you scanned for fault codes? If you don't have a reader, some of your local auto parts stores could do it for free...

If it was in true limp mode, you would be getting the yellow engine indicator on the dash. Is yours a 128 or 135? The one time my '08 135 mt performed like this, it was in limp mode and it turned out to be a vanos problem, and was replaced under warranty.

Are you hearing the radiator fan running more by any chance?
My car starting limping out on me when the water pump was going bad. It wouldn't let me rev high. I had no CEL but could hear the radiator fan running like crazy.
New water pump and car drives like new.

Auto or manual? Is it only when you're cruising 2,500-4kish then want to pass and/or on an on ramp lower rpms then go to increase speed and it's like a dead pedal can floor it and nothing happens, down shift pumping the pedal as rpms come up and about 5-10 seconds it gradually increases until you have response again?

I try and describe it again:

[1] traveling at highways speed 50~60 mph,
[2] wanting to make a pass, press gas pedal to ~85%,
[3] transmission downshift,
[4] engine accelerates as usually,
[5] tachometers climbs as normal,
[6] but no acceleration.

I usually solve this by pulling over to near stopping point [gas station]. shutdown vehicle, wait a second, restart car, and re-enter highway, accelerations returns to normal.

really odd occurrence.

as for temperature not reaching the usually 230 degrees, Im guessing the thermostat is getting stuck-wide-open and keeping the fluid temperatures closer to 200 degrees, not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

Think your best bet would be to take to your car to the nearest dealer...
Or reputable Indy shop that works on BMW's...
All you're doing when pulling over to restart your car is resetting whatever fault that trips while you drive(you probably already know this)...
And, while not impossible, it's very hard to diagnose on a forum without video or logs, or codes, etc...

Just my thought!

Most likely will need to replace this. Fairly easy job overall.

Right that might solve a acceleration issue where the computer isn’t allowing the car to accelerate as normal.
