Rear Bumper Cost Replacement

Hi all

Unfortunately my rear got ended in a shopping carpark and not sure by who but luckily the CF diffuser is safe & sound .

To paint & installed cost me $1899, the new bumper have to come from Germany.

Does this amount sounds reasonable?

Thanks.

The bumper can't be repaired?

Sounds odd that your diffuser is 100% but the bumper itself needs complete replacement.

How bad is it? is it scratches or actual damage?

Sorry to hear this Eddie.

Yes sounds reasonable. The bumper might only cost $500-1000 but this would not include reinforcement-componentry-fitting-finish.

(For comparison a 1M front bumper might cost $3000-6000 in total, depending on the extent of damage.)

Consider myself lucky, the damage is above the diffuser though.

The bumper can be repaired but was told it will not be perfect.

So I have decided to go for a full replacement.

try and fech one second hand mate, sand it back your self and just get someone to pant it.. it should be around $700-$1000 i would say.

If you get BMW to do it for you, what they would do is take it off your hands- send it down to their local smash repairer get them to fix it and jack the price further on top of the initial cost local body shop.

Why do it yourself? It costs around 300-400ish to get someone else to do it?

because if you handed in a second hand bumper bar they would have to sand it back.. for them to do that its cost more time and money..

Unless you source out a cheap new rear bar, then it would cost 300-400 to paint

Hope I make some sort of sense LOL hahaha

I will lose my no claim bonous buddy , moreover whichever pricks who kissed my arse will be cursed

Want to maintain rating for my car insurance.

Here is the cost split up:

Bumper: $1100 (have to come from Germany)
Paint: $500 (factory mix-match)
Labour: $ 200+

Consider they have to remove my rear LED light, reverse sensors + rear diffuser.

how did you get $1800?

you can get a new rear bumper from a dealer for about $400-$500 IIRC (i got a quote from westside BMW brisbane for a 130i one a while back)

then it should be around the $300 mark to get it sprayed.

oh?

sure about that one?

i know, i was surprised too.

despite what it says in those notes, it actually does bolt on (reinforcement bar wise), just needs guards, new washer bottle... all sorts of other things to get it RIGHT.

Here you go, BMW have to order the bumper from Germany, 2-3 weeks delivery into Melbourne.

Parts prices varies between states but this is the lowest price I can find in Melbourne.

~$500 shipped it seems? EXCELLENT shipping rates if so... wow.. even if it was a couple hundred more, they pack well.

$700 to paint and fit? most good panel shops include fitting in a 'paint and fit' price... i'd expect $500 to both paint and RnR at most.

either way, $600 less to get the bumper from the states, shipped.

would probably be able to find a clean ebay/wrecker bumper for half that even, without major dents/scratches and save even more.

haha how does that bumper cost $76 delivery to Perth but 5 oil filters cost $64. However, it still works out $80 cheaper than buying from Repco!

yeah... i don't know

very well could be a fault in the calculation.. or maybe they use a different shipper for it.. it surprised me too, i was expecting $400.

then again, i've ordered oil from amazon with free shipping before (aw yes)

$64 definitely does not sound right lol. It's most likely an error in calculation. A lot of time for big items they can't calculate properly so you'd need to email them for a quote.

Yeah $1800 seems to be the going figure.

I had to replace mine back in January. I paid $1800 cash which included supply genuine bumper, paint match and fit rear parking sensors.

I used a highly reputable business I use for work and paid cost. I'm not sure about the 2-3 week delivery time . . . I had my car back to me in five days including a weekend.
