100k Mile Service @ Indy, Decent Deal?
I've been using a local, seemingly excellent independent shop since my warranty expired but other than a Walnut Blast, all I've really needed is oil changes. Until now... 100k mile service.
They are going to fix a valve cover gasket leak (gasket), replace the plugs (due) replace all 6 coil packs (preventive), change tranny fluid and filter, R&R differential oil (with Redline), Oil and filter change (Motul) for $2700--- It's more than I've ever spent on a single service for any non-hotrod I've ever owned, but then again I've spent very little during the initial 100k miles/7 years of ownership and I'm still loving everything about the car. I realize DIY approach would save a ton, and while I could easily do the work, I haven't the patience nor the time to mess with. Wondering what the Dealer might charge me for these services and whether or not this represents an overall decent "deal"??

Sounds probably about right. I would ask if they could help you out a little with the cost. I have found that most will work some kind of deal if you ask. Tell them how much you have liked dealing with them in the past, and while the price is reasonable could they help you out a little. Asking in this way it doesn't make them feel like your arguing over the price, just that any help would be appreciated.

i've had my clutch and flywheel changed for less, and $1350 of that was just parts
How many hours are they billing you for? I wonder if they are billing you for each procedure separately. |

I did a quick shopping cart through ECS using BMW parts and a few others you mentioned and it's just about $1000 in parts alone.
The work really isn't that difficult but there's a lot of it.

i spent nearly that much for oil filter housing, oil pan and valve cover gaskets, new plugs, coolant, oil at dealer.
going to an indy shop for trans fluid (filter, gasket) change since dealer won't do it. the trans filter kit is about $500 b/c of the bmw fluid. will most likely have rear diff changed. expecting nearly $750 on all this, but worth it for another 100k miles! |

$1053 for parts and $1496 for labor... I'm good with it, especially if it keeps me out of the shop for a couple of years (water pump was done at 75k miles)

I recently had a lot of work done at my local indy shop. Dosen't compare because I had all 4 shocks replaced with Bilstein HD's.. walnut blast.. plugs.. alignment for $2100.
I also asked about having the coil packs replaced and they recommended against it. They said the coil packs will fail at some point but may not be for a long time. I have 95K on my car. So, I would say save money on the coil packs.
