SCCA Solo Autocrossers - Link of Interest
This is an ongoing debate at bimmerforums.com regarding the competitiveness of the E36 M3 in STU. The thread is long but there are many interesting posts spread through it, with several recent (p. 20 and higher) after Nationals. Keep in mind that the E46 M3 will be eligible for STU in 2009. Some of you cone killers may find it worthwhile, I know I do.

Also of note (and possibly of much interest to us 135 bubbas), is they lifted the single turbo restriction for STU for the 2009 season (October Fastrack) .....
most likely I am jumping DS > STU............ |

The class tire will most likely be the Dunlop D1 Star Spec or the Bridgestone RE01R. Apparently Bridgestone is coming with a ringer tire so we'll see who's the top tire for 2009. No other tire companies at this time have a tire that can hang with the two previously mentioned.

the new Kumho XS beat the RE01R in a very recent runoff ......... the ringer may be the nex-gen RE11R - nonetheless, the Kumho's are $100 cheaper per tire, so .............. |

If I was heading to that class I'd go with the Dunlops. After driving Larry's car with them (thanks Larry!) last summer, I was very impressed with them.

NP Matt! Was fun to play with the hohos for a while too. I hope you can come up to a few events this season. We have our dates posted on the Boston chapter's site already. I'll agree that the Direzzas are the best non-R tires I've ever autocrossed on, and I've used the RE-01Rs, Neovas, Both Azenis' (215 and 615). They're a boatload cheaper than the Neovas too. |

Larry, I just went to the Boston BMW site and could not find any event listings for autocross in 2009. I know I am not the sharpest tool inthe shed, so toss me the link please.

Hi Matt.. Right in yellow on the main page, or there is a link to chapter forums post with the dates. Hope you can make a few! Actually, for the two school dates, come on along as one of our guest instructors, and get a free day, free lunch, a ton of seat time with others (both passengering and driving). Just let me know. |

Just plugged them into my calender. Now if you can break up the "R" class a bit. Somehoe me going up against Alex S.and Mike S. with my 318i doesn't make a whole bunch of sense.
