Lightweight flywheel worth it?
I’m curious to see if people thinks it’s worth having when they installed this mod. Price is about the same for oem. I know it comes with some nvh at idle but I can always change it in mhd.
How much faster does it rev to redline? Feel any difference in acceleration? |

I declined to purchase a lightweight flywheel when I replaced my clutch/flywheel with single mass for a few reasons.
Years ago I ran a GT3 spec RX7 that started life with a light weight flywheel and replaced the 12a with another later model version with a heavier flywheel. Although I missed the quick rev nature on downshifts etc I seen exactly zero performance increase on the track, no lap time change or top speed change down the longest straight. 2nd reason is my wife drives this car from time to time and didn’t want her to have to slip the clutch on take offs more than stock. The gear rattle with the single mass clutch is noisy no doubt but I don’t mind it sitting at stop lights although there will be some that prefer the stock flywheel silence. I got the Valeo kit and could not be happier with how it performs, except for the rattle you would never know there was a change. |

Went from stock to a clutchmaster FX350 and lightweight aluminum flywheel. It is much noisier. Certainly revs faster.
Lap times were not impacted, but it does make rev-matching easier. IMO - if it's a street car, it's not worth it - stay factory. |

Thanks for the input fellas.
I’m doing my clutch pretty soon and have a new oem dmfw but was reconsidering the option before I take the trans off. I like the idea of a carbon drive shaft like the f80 m3. Who sells those? Bet it’s pricey |
