Anyone running mafless on N55?
I have 2012 135i with N55 engine.
Does anyone have any experience running mafless and maybe some pictures of short inlet filter? Thanks. |

For the uneducated (me), could you explain the benefits of going MAF-less?

It improves drivability, will allow you to drive the car with a popped off IC pipe (beneficial at the track) & will improve gains when using a bigger turbo.
You'll need a custom tune for sure. It's very common in the DSM world - Speed Density Set Ups |

Just took the MAF off my car while doing a bigger turbo and a bunch of other things. Car is currently running good on a Motiv base tune. Currently putting some easy miles on the new rod bearings. I will update with some logs after we get it on the dyno this week depending on our schedules.

Here's the best I can do for the time being since the car is still currently in my mechanic's possession. I remember you talking about it with me on my thread. Will update with logs soon.

MAF's are great at a lot of things but yea the limitation on the N55 is definitely the MAF. Sooner you get rid of it when trying to make big power, the better.

Jeff@TopGearSolutions , I don’t think anyone disagrees, but who is successfully running mafless and flash only is the issue. I haven’t seen proof of an n55 running mafless and flash only. The closest is the video ghost135i posted.
ghost135i , any updates?

here's what i'm doing today, just had to extend the wiring harness for the MAF connector a bit. Not my car in the picture btw, just someone who ran the same setup for the MAF that I'm about to put together. |

Thanks for the update. Hopefully you figure out the issue soon. I think 5th is the typical gear for dct cars. Agree , 7th would be nuts!!
You have a log of your 526 dyno run? Are you running PI?

I'll have to dig and look for the log, I've taken probably 50 logs total so far. It did pull timing at the top of that pull around 5000, and felt like it broke up, but didnt have a single misfire code or anything. I'm attributing that to the MAF too honestly, since when it was dying on startup it was pulling timing then as well. Gonna try E30 tonight again. Overall, I don't recommend going MAFless now based on my own experience. It might be on a car by car basis, but mine certainly hated it, in very weird ways. No port injection or meth just a DW400 lpfp |

Thanks for the update and glad you got it figured out. Do you know if anything had to be adjusted in the tune to account for the different intake/mounting location of the maf?
WRT the log, I totally get it. I can’t even keep track of the number of logs I have taken. Well if you happen to find it I would love to see it. I am surprised you were able to reach 526 with just a LPFP. I was out of fuel below 500 and needed meth to keep my rail pressure up, especially for something like half mile races. My LPFP is a walboro 450 do not sure if it’s weaker than your pump. Either way your dyno is impressive.

I just filled her back up with some E30 and drove around for a bit, and did a couple 5th gear WOT redline pulls. Feels ridiculously smooth and pulls HARD all the way to redline! Glad I was able to add the MAF so easily again with this housing. I'll look for the log, but for now i'll give you the dyno sheet. Took a pic since it was the highest number of the day, literally the first pull on E30. I did do some research before purchasing this pump and I did read that it flows more than the 450. |

Next run we turned it down, because of the high rpm breakup, and made a smoother 502whp |

That’s a bummer. But she’s running strong which is most important imo. I have never seen dynos that high on stock hpfp only. Is that on 100 octane? Was your 502 dyno run smooth all the way to redline?

Just seeing this now. Yeah 502 was all the way to redline. Posted the dyno sheet in my thread since I decided to update it. Wouldn't let me post it here the other day for some reason.
