Adjusting Trunk (Boot) Panel Gaps

My SGM 135i came with a really odd adjutment on the boot lid, the top of the trunk fit below the fender line. (See pix.) - Almost every opening panel on a car will have a means of adjustment and a little visual inspection turned up the adjustment point for the rear deck lid (deck, boot, trunk, can't think of many more ways to call the dam thing ; -)

So here it is:
  • Open the boot
  • Remove the plastic cap over the 8mm screw
  • Raise or lower the screw as needed
  • Replace the cap and test the fit
  • Remove the cap and readjust
  • Repeat until the fit is where you want it to be
Remember, the adjustment will be a compromise between the fit of the decklid at the back light and at the rear of the car.

Complexity 'stars' - none, my dog could do it if she had opposible thumbs. ; -)

Thanks, I also have the same issue... Noticed it yesterday while I was giving it a wash.

Mine's the same. Deck of boot/trunk is below the line of the C pillar. Perhaps that's how it's supposed to be

I'll let everyone know if it is an issue. : -)

Edit - I checked the seal between the deck lid and the weatherstripping by applying dots of a liquid wax at various points on the weatherstripping and then closing the trunk. The deck lid showed a wax spot at each point it occurred on the weatherstripping. It should be as watertight as before the adjustment. (And that's a DIY check to make sure it is still sealing to the weatherstripping ; -).

Thanks for posting this. I washed and waxed my car today and noticed I have the same issue. I'll give this a shot.

Hugo,

Have you noticed a similar gap with the hood? Mine has both boot and bonnet offsets.

Hood's not as bad as the trunk was. I thought my rear deck was correct until I saw Brain's TiAg 135 and his decklid was adjusted correctly from the factory/VDC. Wonder if they have a problem seeing this gap on the darker paint surfaces?

That's a nice little DIY, Hugo! I was looking at that same gap on my SGM but was too lazy to do anything about it. Your comment about your dog doing it has finally shamed me into action.

Gaps are really obvious on AW, but I've got the same bad-looking adjustment as atr_hugo. Might give it a go - but last time a fiddled with the fit of a boot/trunk lid, it took a chunk of paint off the top of the bumper when I closed it...

So I started to adjust my trunk lid, one sit went great, backed the screw out and it started to fit better, turned to the other side and backed the screw out and went to shut the trunk. nothing it won't shut. I backed both screws back down and nothing it STILL won't shut.

What could I have done wrong?!?

Finally got it to shut again by backing them all the way back down. guess I didn't go far enough. guess mine will stay the way it is. I will ask the dealership about it when I go in later this week.
