will sunroof delete ever be available in the us?

it's kind of annoying how bmw has sunroof standard on the 1 series, anyone know if they will offer a delete anytime soon?

It's standard now, and will probably always remain standard. What people wanted was a no-cost option of deleting the sunroof for Priority 1 orders, which has been available for other BMW models.

For some reason, BMW chose not to make that option available for US 1 series orders. e.g. You can delete the sunroof in Canada and Europe, I believe.

Thats the way I feel. Either open it up all the way with a convertible or close it up all the way. I didn't consider the A3 because it had the sky curtain or whatever they called it and in south Texas it's too hot to not be able to close the sunroof with an opaque plastic cover. Germans are not being smart if they don't understand it's hot as hell in most of the USA half of the year at least. We aren't all Colorado. We have a lot more hot pavement to contend with than they do in the hills of Germany. I guess what it is, the marketing people must think we are completely spoiled on options. I wonder why.

I have to pay for it then there are ppl out there who would pay to get rid of it. Should reverse the spec, that would've saved me 1500$ on a piece of glass.

Well in the interest of a true hard core tii version it would be interesting if there was an option to delete:

sunroof
aircon
airbags
rear seat
some sound deadening
audio
electric windows, door locks
others?

w/ lightweight wheels/tires/seats it would be interesting to know if this would break the <3,000lbs barrier -- my guess is that it would pretty handily

Sounds cool, but any car without airbags wouldn't be street legal, i.e. it would be a track-only car.

^^^^ true that about legality. I was really speaking hypothetically, but yea add back the airbags for street legality --at least in the US.

The interesting thing is that I believe the original 2002tii -- which people like to compare the 135 to -- would have been available without most of this stuff (although not rear seat delete and maybe not stereo delete) as are today's true track weapons -- exige, caterham, atom etc.

I'm actually a big sunroof fan, because sunroofs let in sunlight in the wintertime. I currently drive an '05 X5 and my favorite feature bar none is the panoramic sunroof. I love having the sunlight pour in on a sunny day in December or in the middle of the summer on the highway where I don't want the top open. I actually have considered the Mini Cooper for that very reason, but I think that I've settled on replacing the X5 with a 135i with a traditional sunroof. It certainly looks large enough to keep me happy

This lightweight option code is already available to you it is spelled: LOTUS :wink:

Just for fun, I looked up used Lotuses (Loti ?) on cars.com and found them ranging from $33K to $40+K.

That would trim soo much of the cars weight down, and it looks stunning!

Sunroof is not standard in Canada - just ordered my 135i with M-Sport, AT with shift paddles - no sunroof unless I get the Comfort package....

In addition to less headroom, the sunroof assembly adds extra weight at the very top of the car. Also, as it ages it is prone to rattles; the sunroof on my E36 rattled like he**.

yea that's how i feel, i knew about Canada and Europe having the delete i was just wondering why we didn't have it here.

sunroofs add weight to the worst part to add weight to a car, they increase chassis flex, are kind of annoying IMO, and almost always usually fall apart (rattle, gets off tracks, motor breaks)

and as performance oriented the 135 is, it's kind of hard to understand why a delete isn't available.

Man, here in Oz, the sunroof was a $2.7K option. I didn't even flinch at ticking that box and i'm not a rich bloke. Personally I love heading along the coast on a sunny day with both windows down and the sunroof open. Gold.

That and the fact that I never ever use them. If I wanted open air I'd buy a vert or some type of targa styled car.

I can almost guarantee you will not see a sunroof delete option in the US.

You will not see a carbon fiber roof option on the 128 or 135. That will be reserved for the M's. Heck even the E90 M3 and E60 M5 don't have a CF roof option. The E90 M3 does have the option for a sunroof delete though.
