WeatherTech Floormats Clutch Problem
Anyone else have these problems?
1 - Instructions say use the factory mounting screws, my car came with rubber mats and are affixed by velco, so no mounting 2 - The biggest problem, no matter how I install the drivers side mat with or without the factory mat underneath (I know the instructions say to install with nothing there, which I have tried) when I engage the clutch, the pedal gets stuck on the floor mat. I really like the idea of the mats, unfortunately I have not been able to use the drivers side mat because of the of the pedal sticky issue. Any ideas? |

did u get the floorliner or just all weather floor mats? I got the floorliner and it just fit like a glove and i expect the all weather floor mats are the same... the floorliner/floor mats are vehicle specific... so did u order the correct one?

maybe try bending the part under the clutch a bit to stick to the floor better? it happened to me the other day ... the tire guy adjusted my seat and screwed up my floorliner (dunno how he screwed it up)... it got stuck when I pressed the clutch so the tire guy took it out and bent it a bit... problem solved and it fit like a glove again.... good luck...

What I ordered
Ronster,
Thanks for your replies! I ordered; 2010 BMW 1-Series (E82/E88) Coupe FloorLiner™ DigitalFit® 1st Row And wile I do agree, the fit is snug, the problem I am having is that unless I was to glue the mats to the carpet (which I am not going to do) the mat does not rise enough behind the pedals, so when you push down on the clutch, it snags on the top of the mat, and after doing it a couple of times the mat then bends and becomes more prone to catching. I will try bending. I was also thinking about getting some plastic and attaching it to the top of the mat then finding a way to attach the plastic to something above the carpet. Will post any solutions I come up with that work. Cheers... B |

fwmcb,
I can say the passenger side mat works better than the BMW rubber mats that came with the car, they offer better coverage and their rigidity is nice, making them like little dumpsters that keep all of the mess tracked into the car on people's shoes. The drivers side mat however I have not been able to use at all. Looking at them, the issue I am having, living in a somewhat rural area, no matter how much I kick snow and crap off my feet, with the BMW mats the carpet is still getting damp. I can't see that the Weather Tech mats would perform better as I thing the common, somewhat unavoidable flaw both have is the space at the bottom of both the footrest, and the gas pedal do not prevent water from melting and getting under the mat. So for the $150 or whatever they cost, I would have to not recommend them, I think the mats that came with the car are a better choice. I would have returned them, however, I have been really busy with work and I missed the 30 day return window. |

bueller, thanks. I was thinking I'd go for the BMW mats, but those weathertech ones looked awesome. Seeing as the car is arriving earlier than anticipated I may not have a choice. Imagine a Canadian overlooking winter floormats and winter tires, lol...

not 100% sure yet. I was going to go with 16" steelies, but my dealer told me with the sport pack on the 128, I can't get away with that... I have a week or 2 to figure that out I may just go with the 17" pack offered by BMW with the runflats.

Velcro?
It you stuck a velcro pad(s) to the back of the mat, would that keep it down on the carpet?
Just use the sticky/hook side...........

EngPhys09,
The passengers side mat does not have holes for any type of mounting. I think I need to get hooks, my car came with the BMW rubber floor mats, which I actually like the look of better, I am not a big fan of the metallic logo bubble sticker, planer is better. What mounting system comes with standard mats? I took a photo of what I have... I think I will use ronsters bending technique along with DUH CAR's suggestion of velco, but put the 'vel' or 'cro' whatever is the right one on the underside of the mat where the homes are. |

Off Topic;
fwmcb, You might want to consider ordering your wheels from Gil at the Tire Rack, I got a set of 18" ASA wheels with Bridgestone 225/40R-18 Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 for around $1850 which was way cheaper than the dealer. They arrived at my office 2 or 3 days after my order, no boarder hastles, it was great! They are not run flats, but The last time I had a flat where the tire was destroyed was off roading in Death Valley, I actually had 3 flat tires at the same time, but that is another story. I keep an Airman Tire Repair Kit in my trunk, you can get them at Canadian Tire for $50. http://reviews.canadiantire.ca/9045/...5P/reviews.htm From what I saved, I bought a nice pneumatic floor jack, and changed the tires around myself. |

I too, just started to experience this very same problem. It only happens with when I have the floor heat on though. I have bent it back a little extra and re-installed the mat and haven't had any problems since.
The first thing I thought about doing was what 671rover suggests above but when I noticed that it was catching because the mat distorted from the heat I don't think trimming it will work. I also though about re-using the velcro from the OEM mats on the back by the pedals but I will just wait to see if the clutch sticks again. |

Those look great, I just negotiated for a set of 17" RFT's with my dealership, a bit more than I planned on paying, but they will store them... which is a huge deal for me right now... but if it doesn't work out I'll definitely look into the tire rack. RFTs are looking like more of a pain in the ass every day! But then again when I saw my GF haul into school sparks flying this morning because she had a flat on her cobalt and kept driving (for 25km) I realized why I want RFTs, lol! I have the same airman in my corvette because I got rid of the spare to save weight... |

I've been using the WeatherTech liners for about a week now without any issue. Even with the heat on the floor.
Why don't you just do a cutout where the cluch pedal meets the mat and be done with it?

Sorry to revive this old thread. Just wanted to note that I also bought the weathertech digital fit for the E82 and I had major clutch issues. It did indeed only happen with high heat (hot days or floor vents on high fan with heat). I tolerated the issue until it almost caused an accident because the pushing against the clutch caused further bending to the point where it started to obstruct my brake pedal as well.
grish is right. I just took a shop knife and cut out a rectangle from the front edge of the mat near the clutch. No problems since. Other than that, the mat fits like a glove and has totally saved my carpets. I sent an email to weathertech suggesting they fix the issue before someone gets hurt and they get sued. |

I eventually had to cut the corner off mine but I used my dremel and put a radius in the corners so it looks like it was meant to be there.

My weathertech floor liner doesn't seem to have the same problem. The edge of my mat is lower than the one in Bueller's picture, hence it is not touching the clutch.
Perhaps weathertech revised the design? |
