I am wanting to ditch side-of-console cup holder retrofit...

I have only had my MT 2010 135i for a few weeks, but knock this with my knuckles EVERYTIME I hit 5th gear. Hoping that there HAS to be a better option, were these in-dash cup holders ONLY available on the e9x? They seem like a perfect option?

Does anyone have them retrofitted or know if it can/cannot be done???

Thanks!

Just remove it? It's just snapped in

How is your hand hitting it, it is miles away from the shifter? Are you sure it's not just put in backwards? It just pops out of its holder.

I think what I hit is anything that I put into it. I think it can be removed without issue....I’m more looking for a GOOD alternative to it. The link I provided in original post has Perhaps more potential than anything else that I’ve seen, but carving into glovebox area to test fit scares me a little bit. Surely someone has tried something for a good, realistic cup holder? Thanks for any feedback!

Or for the truly ambitious, a quest for NLA parts.

Agreed, and quoting this to be sure to say to check it out. Even with something in it, it's a reach. It might just not be correctly installed.

This is what OP is looking for, no doubt, never seen it before myself. I would imagine decently rare.

So after installing my own cup holder retrofit, I can see how, if you have meaty hands or grip the knob differently you COULD contact the cup holder.

I still think the BMW Performance SSK lever would be a solution to this problem

Hmm I love my side mounted cup holder. It's perfectly located for my S10+ with my USB Charger and AUX Cord.
