New PCV heater recall
Just got a letter today stating that the prior recall for the PCV heater (17V-673 / 19V-273) repair wasn't effective, and that my car (10/08 build date) "needs a new remedy performed", but "they are not able to perform a remedy at this time".
The letter goes on to say that "If you see smoke from the engine compartment, or smell smoke, or a plastic burning odor, carefully move away from traffic and pull over to a safe location as soon as possible". Funny enough, been having those exact symptoms recently. Thought I botch the VCG job I did a few months ago and was leaking oil towards the back of the engine, but this would make more sense as I haven't been able to find a leak. My problem started ~2 trouble-free months after the VCG job. I get constant smoke coming out of the hood and occasionally into the vents. Its definitely a burning oil smell, but as the car runs it turns into more of a plastic-y smell. This obviously needs to be fixed, but I'm a bit worried about what all the repairs will entail. I installed a 3IM at the same time that I did my VCG. Could this void the recall? (if that's even possible?) What parts would need to be replaced, and would it include the IM itself? |
