Alpine Hifi Kit
Hi guys
Anyone know where I can order this kit? Only site I found was the Schmiedmann site, but I saw that Angus had ordered from there before and got a damaged tweeter so I'm a bit hesitant... BMW quoted me $1250 for parts, while ordering from the site is about $550 shipped. As a side note, Brisbane BMW quoted me $1000 for install while Westside BMW quoted me $400 - and they're supposed to be owned by the same group! Cheers |

I searched their site and couldn't seem to find it... maybe I will send them an email.
Tischer was quite slow when I used it recently, took them a week to ship out an item that was in stock, something about a system error... |

Yeah.. I did get a damaged tweeter and their after sales support leaves something to be desired but their prices are very attractive... and their shipping of very cheap...
I also haven't bought enough stuff from them to know whether or not my experience was a aberration or the norm... I'm actually looking at getting the 1M Mirrors from Schmeidmann so I guess I'll find out... |

Mate i got mine from Schmiedmann and installed a a third party place, my bmw dealership didn't know anything about the kit. due to Schmiedmann receiving a batch of bad tweeters i had to wait 6 months for the kit
the kit goes hard and I'm impressed. i dynomatted the 2 front doors and overall very happy. just took a long time to get the system |

I got all the info from here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=505654
I'm going to go ahead and order from ECS, hopefully extra $ = less headaches. $1k installed sounds good to me, can't wait to get rid of the rubbish base stereo... It's worse than my old 2007 1 series hatch |

Everyone please note:
If you DO get this kit and upgrade from the standard base system you NEED tot take it to BMW or someone who does BMW Coding. The base system is coded to fuck with the sound equalisation to make up for the shitty speakers installed by default. Your car will need to be recoded to remove this audio equalisation. Anyone who tells you otherwise does not understand... It will WORK without coding but it will not sound the way it was intended - ie: better. BMW will tell you that it needs 8 hrs coding to do this and that they are going to charge you accordingly. It doesn't. It will cost you 1hr of coding. |

Benny,
The reason you would have received different quotes is down to the time BMW say it will take to code. (they assume 8hrs - dunno why - maybe to cover any possible updates the system may need? THere are minimum DME versions for the Alpine kit coding) Obviously whoever you spoke to at Westside has been through this before... |

From the OEM Installation instructions .pdf that are available over on the main forum, it states that no coding is required for 2009+ cars. I cant find the link to them right now, but I will post the .pdf here when I get home. |

Hmm... The PDF that I have (also at home) says that ALL cars need coding - if they don't have the Hi-Fi level stereo or above.
IE: If you car didn't come with tweeters, you need coding. Last edited by Harlequin; 02-08-2012 at 12:45 AM.. |

PDF is available on that link I posted above.
Page 13 says coding is required unless you have "SA 662" - Radio BMW Business CD - I think all of ours would be Radio BMW Professional which is "SA 663". Cars with sat nav (business or professional) both need coding. So...we need coding. |
