Sport was mandatory for me. M-sport nice but not mandatory.

Suspension was just an example. Everything can be modded or replaced with oe parts from another car or package. Just depends on the owner, how much they plan to tinker.

A few more pieces either in hand or en route,

3) Hotchkis FSB and links (classifieds here)
4) 1M strut tower bar pieces (auction/retail combo)
5) M subframe bushings (classifieds/retail combo)
6) M3 RSB (auction)

It's -30C, I was supposed to be skiing all week . Warming to -20C tomorrow, so hope to sneak out to the woods for a couple days to make up for a cancelled trip.

Ok, CV19 has effectively shutdown my ski program for the foreseeable future (small price given what others are going through), so that means OPPORTUNITIES to work on the car.

I THINK I have all the pieces either en route or in hand, except for tires (and I actually have two used 255/40/17 RE71Rs sitting here that I'll mount up and use to test fit down the line).

Recipe from the ground up:

  • 245 or 255/40/17 200TW rubber
  • TRMotorsport 17x8.5 ET 40 wheels
  • OEM rotors, Porterfield pads
  • Whiteline adj. bushing front arms
  • Kmac adjustable rear arm bushings (need to verify they're allowed)
  • Hotchkis Front Sway Bar
  • M3 Rear Sway Bar
  • Hotchkis adjustable end links front & rear
  • M3 RSFB
  • AKG Tranny Mounts
  • Wavetrac LSD
  • TCKline SA front 400# DA rear 700#
  • KMac Street/Race camber plates
  • TCKline Shock mounts
  • OEM 1M strut tower brace

Unquestionably will need to roll fenders for 255s, MAYBE only a bit for 245s.

Also have a Berk Street midpipe/axle back sitting here that'll get mated in there sooner rather than later I hope.

Future will include OFHG, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, but for now none of them are doing more than mild 'sweating' - not even a drip, yet. Ultimately headers and tune then perhaps an intake (WIX filter will do for now), but handling first.

WHAT HAVE I MISSED?

Need to do a timing belt/water pump on our ALH Jetta next week before digging into all this, but at least it's on the horizon now.

Warmer weather would help too.

Cabin filter swap
Charcoal filter delete
WIX air filter installed (need to research quality again, it's been a few years )
Replaced clutch stop with an adjustable
UUC knock off short shifter installed
Smoked LED side markers installed (plus 800hp!)

Gonna need to do oil pan gasket sooner rather than later.....and a tranny output shaft seal - this one was a surprise.

The 128i was enough to win STOUR locally this season

Also inspired a new commuter for my wife....

Salvage titled, ‘09 328i xdrive, 170k kms, auto - first impressions are actually positive. Need to lose the windshield tint, install a muffler (deleted), OFHG.....then just see what pops up for maintenance. First Salvage Title for us (it was issued rebuilt status 65k kms ago, so hopeful any issues will have previously been addressed)....time will tell!

Well, it’s -100C outside so I fired up the heater in the garage to tackle some mods prior to the ‘21 Autocross season (COVID-19 restrictions permitting).

Pulled stock exhaust manifolds/dps in prep for header installation and will follow up with an exhaust in the spring.

Valve cover gasket coming this afternoon after I warm up. New coils and plugs on hand to do as well.

I’ll tackle the shift shaft seal when I get around to installing the Coolerwerx shifter.

Happy to report that last year’s retorque of the oil pan bolts continues to delay the need to replace that gasket.

Looking forward to wheeling it out of storage and crushing some cones!

Forum continues to be a tremendous resource - thanks to all!

Lol - you are a hardy soul to work in winter. The re-torque thing has held for me for about a year and a half, sadly it's not finally starting to seep again, gonna have to bite the bullet and get it fixed

Just be careful not to overtorque too much, some horror stories of these bolts shearing

Had a mergepipe/race cat/ 3” to BerkStreet axleback installed today. Linked to headers I installed over the winter......combination is apparently not good 😳.

When the fabricator (and fellow autocrosser) calls to say ‘it’s loud, you’ll blow over’ (decibel restrictions at all our venues), I believe him! 🤪

He’s gonna try adding a resonator, I’m hoping that’s sufficient.

Exhaust ended up as merge>3" race cat> resonator> 2 1/2" core (Dynomax Turbo, I think) muffler . I'll get pics at some point.

Flashed the RPM Motorsport tune tonight.

Cleared all the post flash codes and will assess it on the drive home in the morning! Tune added some growl back into the exhaust, gonna need to test it with a sound meter.

And I will make an effort to get it dyno'd in the near future.

Seventh autocross of the season yesterday……top 10 PAX again for me, but had our club’s point leader codrive my car - and he was promptly first overall in both RAW and PAX!

Hard to claim the need for one more upgrade when he can hop in and be almost a full 2 seconds faster than me on a 60 second course ….brake upgrade should be done prior to the next event

Learned lots, absolutely worth the humble pie

2022 = local STX win again….and climbing the club overalls to 6th on the year. Driver remains the limiting factor.

Brake upgrade at the end of ‘21 was well worth it. Stainless lines and (not happening) 1M master cylinder for ‘23 (brace allowed, replacement appears disallowed).

And I’m gonna try to squeeze square 265/35/18s on it for next season too.

Car has been absolutely solid.

There's a track/autocross sub on these forums. Post it there, it will get more attention.
