Dumbest move ever! Locked myself out of the trunk.
So, I disconnected my battery to try to reset my "Service Engine Soon" light and closed the trunk. Now the trunk won't open and I can't reconnect the battery.
Just closed the trunk by habit. Pulled on the trunk, hit the button next to the trunk release, and tried to pull the seats down. Is there an idiot override, or do I have to call a locksmith. THANKS SHAMUS |

Searched and found these-
""""He has to use a key for the front door, pop the hood, "jump" (by connecting jumper cables) to the battery terminal posts UNDER THE FRONT HOOD, and he will have enough power to unlock the trunk using the trunk button on the dash. """ "Take the rear headrests off and try to fish the emergency handle open." Sounds like a plan???? |

Guess I'm NOT first idiot to do this!
"""So this was rather easy, I simply jumped it and the car woke up and I'm able to now get into the trunk." |

This is something that pops up on a regular basis. I have a rubber mat in my trunk and I always put it over the back and cover the latch when I'm working on the car with the trunk open

To prevent this, you can take a screwdriver and close the latch for the trunk, so even if you do close it, it is already "latched" and wont lock you out.
On early E82's, you can open the trunk with the physical key. My '09 has this feature, my '11 does not. |

I wonder if there is a way to have one side of the rear seat unlatched permanently. Mine would stay upright just because of the tight fit.

I am super paranoid about this, so I pull both rear seat releases before I disconnect the battery and push the rear seats forward. If I end up doing something dumb, like close the trunk, (or someone else does to be helpful...) then I can crawl through the back seats and pull the glow in the dark trunk release handle to open the trunk. No need to do that. Yet!
