How does everyone mount their phone in their 1er?
Hello all. Picked up my new(to me) 135i this past saturday, and in my travels I noticed a minor complication. I use my phone for GPS purposes when needed, and often use Waze to help look out for cops on long trips, even when I know exactly where I am going. This means I need to have the phone plugged in, or it kills the battery pretty quickly. In my old 540i, I simply used a suction cup windshield mount with a magnetic mount for the phone to hold my phone and then plugged the lightning cable into a 2 port USB charger in the stock 12V location. I usually mounted my phone on the left side of the steering wheel next to the A-pillar, as that keeps it out of the way and within arm's reach. Center mounting puts it too far away to reach.
Now, in the 135i, the armrest area location of the charge port makes that impossible, at least without a 6 foot cord or something like that, and I really don't feel like snaking a cord all over the interior. As these cars apparently only do Bluetooth for the purposes of phone calls rather than streaming, it is also important to be able to plug the phone into the factory USB for steering wheel track selection and the like. So what solutions have you guys seen or come up with for your cars? I know I can't be the only one who wants to have a better solution. Is there some way to get a mount to work down in the center console area? Am I missing something with Bluetooth options? I've tried searching both on google and here on the board for E82 phone mount options, and I'm not coming up with much. the only thing I have seen so far is the one that clips over the vent opening, and I don't really care for that option. So, any ideas guys? |

I don't know how you want to mount it. I haven't found a good place for my phone yet. I did buy this and am figuring out how to mount tablet on in front of my gps display because I never use it:
My car does both calls and streaming so if yours does not you should look into this: I had it and it was awesome. Auto paired when I entered the car and pauses music on a call and pauses when the car needs to alert you of something like if you have your phone connected to the car and you only use the kinivo for music. |

It's a case that combines with different magnetic mounts for different purposes. I have the car mount pictured, and a couple of the stick-on disc mounts that I could use if there were a convenient location in the car. The problem is that my car apparently does not have streaming Bluetooth capability, so streaming my music to the car is not possible without connecting to the USB port either with a cord or a wireless adapter. With a wireless adapter, getting power to the phone for longer trips is still an issue due to the placement of the power sources well away from the windscreen. Ideally I think I need a way to mount the phone in a place where I can get a USB cord attached to the factory USB port. I would be perfectly willing to modify my car mount, etc. Just don't want to tear up the interior of the car if at all avoidable. |

The only draw back I've seen is sometimes it can get loose and wiggle around. Easily fixed by tightening it. It does come with plates for phone or tablet. I have both under the cases and it holds.

I use the Kenu Airframe mount. It simply fits onto the air vent in the center of the dash.

A holder that slides into the CD insert slot like this
http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroov.../dp/B004G1L52Q I don't leave it there since it blocks a decent bit of the radio screen but it works for when i need a GPS. If i were to do it again i'd probably go along the lines that Yakuza did, with one that clips onto the air vent.

If you have the smoker's package, you can open the ash tray lid and that leaves an absolutely perfect spot for a phone to lay there sideways. Doesn't move in turns or braking / accel either.

I have a vent mount I bought from Griots garage. Works well on the center vent.

I have a Kuda mount (link below) which sits nicely just below the vents (doesn't block air!). I already had an HTC car dock for my phone, so I just took off the plastic/suction and screwed it onto the mount.
http://www.kudausa.com/bmw-1-e81e82e...ack-a1345.html (gps thing is not included, it's just the leather covered mounting spot) I do have bluetooth, but for USB (for power), I've routed the cord past the vents and then tucked it up under the center console so it is out of the way. I think there's a DIY on that in here somewhere (found it, it's for an F20 but same idea: http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=702457 ) Works very well, but was admittedly kind of expensive. |

My g3 doesn't fit in the cup holder. Don't need to see the radio screen. I leave the phone there all the time. Best thing would be for someone to make a tablet trim piece that replaces the radio. Seen one for the 3 series. Not for the 1 though.
