Outside temp inaccurate?

I've noticed that the outside temp display on my e88 is really quite inaccurate. Usually well higher than the actual outside temp by the best part of 10F.

In contrast, my e91 is always pretty much spot on. Is this just how they are? I suppose I should get down under and make sure it's snapped into where ever it is supposed to be.

Outside temp inaccurate?

It doesn't cost a lot to change the outside thermometer and doesn't require to much work.
How much is the difference from the car and outside?

It's interesting - as it has gotten colder, it seems to be more accurate.
The hotter out it is, the more off it is - at 90F, it will read 100F once I have driven a few minutes, so I think it isn't being shielded from engine heat like it should be. As I said, my e91 is always dead on.

Where is it located? I have searched all over the 'net, have not found a reference to where they stuck it on the e8x. Haven't had a chance to crawl under. I really wonder if it is just popped out of place. Had that happen with another car and it caused the similar symptoms.

ECS tuning has it listed as part number 65 81 6 936 953 for $55. It fits a number of models, and mentions that it is commonly mounted on the inner left fender.
