Car&Driver Nov 2005 325i Sport short take.

I just got my Car and driver in the mail for November 2005 and on page 158 there is a short take on a Red 325i Sport with just a few options (Sport Package, and Sirius Sat radio). Total price was $33,190.

0-60 in 6.1 sec
0-100 in 16.8 sec
Street start 5-60 in 6.8 sec
1/4 Mile in 14.7Sec@94 MPH
top speed 147 MPH
Braking, 70-0 in 161 feet
300-ft-dia-Skidpad 0.87g
test fuel economy 25 MPG

curb weight 3,348 pounds

the following are quotes from the artical.

The Universally praised 3 series ride-and-Handling balance is still intact. That's a relief, Considering BMW had to work around teh stiff-ness of the run flat tires. However, this latest setup feels a little stiffer then the outgoing model's(E46), and when successive road irregularities of a large variety are encountered, the ride can get harsh. At the limit, there is more understeer then we recall in the latest car, but there is still some characteristic BMW neutrality, achieved in part by a weight distribution of 49.9 front and 50.1 rear.

The added power and more aggresive gearing give straight line performance a swift kick to 6.1 seconds from 0-60 and 14.7 seconds ar 94 MPH Through the quarter mile. this 325i blows away the last generation car and is also quickerthen the previous 330i model.

enjoy everyone.

Something here looks funny. It looks like they put the data in the wrong place.

and one thing that is funny is that last month they tested a 330i in Manual and the best they got 0-60 in 6.0 seconds. Only 0.1 Faster then a 325i and the 330i is about 5 to 6 grand more?? MMM that's an expensive 0.1 Second for performance. LOL

Oh, how I LOVE my 325i. Fast, powerful and if you want - without too much trying, economical.

That's no mixup. Those guys always get crazy 0-60 times. If I remember correctly their first test of the 330i (pre-comparison test) the did 0-60 in 5.6 seconds.

There are three levels of traction control and 7000 choices of rpms to drop the clutch on. The've got time and intruments to get the best 0-60 times. We wont do it at every stop light, but it makes me feel confident I'll be able to keep up with or possibly smoke some e46 330is.

I dig it. 330i guys will complain that there must be a typo, but 325i guys will dig it.

Schweet!

325 POWER!!!

makes me wonder that when my E46 330i lease is over if i should even get a E90 330i instead of a 325i and save my self about 3 grand in the total overall price of the car.

I don't see why any 330i owners should complain about this.

325 performing well is good for us 330i owners.

I also remember the earlier 330i test with a 0-60 time of 5.6 seconds ... in fact, it was that 330i article that first triggered my interest in the E90 ... nice to see the 325i coming in at 6.1 seconds , and thats with the stock CDV-setup.

i also priced out a 325 and a 330. Once I added the options I wanted, it came down to a $2000 difference. It was a no brainer to go the 330 route.

I think the 325 makes sense if you are not looking to load up on options. If a skinnied down 3 series is what you after, you can't dispute the value of the 325. It's a great deal.

What kept me out of 330 territory was the fact that xDrive adds about 2400cdn to the base price...with Metallic paint, Sirius prewire, Step, Adpative Headlightsand tax I'm over 53k cdn!!!

I assume you mean $53K + tax. Even the base 325i comes out to about $48K with the freight and tax added.

I ordered mine in July...42600 for the car, 800 for the paint, 1400 for the Step, $150 for the Sirius Prewire and 490 for the AH....2% discount, and presto, I'm in hock for $53090!!!

That is quite a bit quicker than I would have thought, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I'd like to see dyno runs of stock 325's and 330's to see how much power these cars are putting to the wheels.
