It would only be affected if they really did make another "pure" M car. One that only came in manual. One you could order without i Drive and a mandatory screen. If they built one with light manual seats as an option and no motorized mirrors and no sunroof option. If it had a good fast rack with good feedback and "pure" non flashy black calipers without bmw stickers on it. One that has a temp gauge and simple clear white on black instruments and it weighs less than the previous model.

Yeah when BMW makes a car like that again prices will take a hit because people could buy a new one with warranty.

IMHO, just because another desirable car is offered doesn't mean 1M prices will be affected. Sure, some owners may jump ship, but I seriously doubt you'll see the used market flooded with 1Ms. Since that ain't going to happen, supply and demand will ultimately prevail.

It's not heavier by much, but is sure has a lot more power and torque.

1M will always remain special. I just wonder how close this new model comes to the drive and feel of the 1M.
you are way off on the weight. The M2 Competiion is 55 kg heavier than the M2... which is heavier already than the 1M.

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1487340

According to BMW DE:

1495kg - 1M

1570 kg - M2 MT
1595 kg - M2 DCT

1625 kg - M2C MT
1650 kg - M2C DCT

1635 kg - M4 MT
1660 kg - M4 DCT

According to BMW USA

US SPEC M4 6MT - 3565 lbs = 1617 kg
US SPEC M4 DCT - 3620 lbs = 1642 kg

US SPEC M2 6MT - 3450 lbs = 1564kg
US SPEC M2 DCT - 3505 lbs = 1590 kg

US SPEC M2 COMP MT - ?? 3569 ?? = 1619 kg
US SPEC M2 COMP DCT - ?? 3626 ?? = 1645 kg

For the US SPEC M2 COMP I simply added the 55KG to the KG weights and did the math..
The responses are in ?? because they are unofficial as a US spec sheet hasn't been produced as of yet.

EDIT

ACTUAL SPEC

US SPEC M2 COMP MT - 3600 lbs = 1633 kg
US SPEC M2 COMP DCT -3655 lbs = 1658 kg

Garage List
1495 kgs is a DIN figure, not EU. The difference is 75 kilos which are assumed to be the drivers weight at 68kgs and 7 kilos of luggage.

So the 1M EU weight figure for the 1M is the same with the original M2 at 1570 kgs.

It's been a while and it's really great to see all the regulars still around and posting . I've been busy with work, life and other things and the 1M just ticked over 48k. I cannot believe how time is flying.

I've occasionally speculated what it would be like to replace the 1M. In an ideal world, I would keep the 1M forever and have enough money and garage space to add other cars to the stable. Unfortunately, even if I could afford to keep buying more toys, my wife will not allow me to expand the garage and she is right

I keep running into one issue. There really isn't anything south of a 911 GT3 (or 911 R) that I think offers the unique combination of rarity, fun, mechanical engagement and subtle in-your-faceness (oxymoron, I know) of the 1M.

Porsche Carerra (insert trim here) - Poor value for money. Nothing standard.
Porsche Cayman - 4-cylinder now. Sounds like small lawnmower.
Audi RS-whatver -
Mercedes AMG-whatever - Too bling. Too AMG
Lexus RC-whatever
Mustang GT 350R - Too Mustang.

The M2 competition is a curveball of sorts. I never expected to look at another "small" BMW because I already own the perfect one. I've driven the M2 on track and it's a fine car but I don't really feel a big performance difference. The M2C will obviously turn it up to 11 and I hope it kicks Audi and Mercedes ass all over the place. I do think moving from a 1M to an M2C will actually be less satisfying if you spend most of your time on regular roads. You will likely get something marginally faster and more comfortable in exchange for something more mechanical and fun, not to mention rare.

So far, the only cars I would consider trading the 1M for are:

911R - Maybe when I win several lotteries.
997 GTS - This one is tempting. Prices are getting really good but I don't love the old interior and the steering wheels.
991 GTS - Still NA and updated interior. Might be sweet spot.
991.2 GTS - Turbo. Overpriced right now.
991.2 GT3 Touring - Intriguing but not in my price range yet. May never be because they don't depreciate much. Won't be as good a DD as 1M.
991 GT3 - Starting to see some creeping down in price but won't be a great DD.

Definitely looks good, will have to check one out at the local dealer when they get them.
Believe it or not, you can get it with the CF roof - it is a port installed option (not making this crap up!) For those of you outside the US, you get to have your dealer remove the old roof and install the new one. Yikes!

and.. you won't see too many at your local dealer for a while, the order list is pretty long at most places. Then again, those "special" dealers who have one marked up may keep theirs for a while.

Wait .. what? Get out of the silo and go where? Did you sell the 1M? What was the replacement?

3600 lbs for 6MT and 3655 for DCT

It turned out to be heavier than I had even guessed.

Very heavy and a tad disappointing. Although I do have an order in, I'm wondering if this is the right car for me as I wait for the CS/CSL.

I've decided to make the competition my wife's car with DCT and a sunroof. Main goal is to do ED with my wife and 4 year old while still being to haul a good amount of stuff. It'll be a good car for my wife to learn on track as I've got nothing else that's an auto aside from the Jeep. Hopefully she's satisfied with the M2c as she's been hounding me to get her a white PDK Carerra T with a glass sunroof for a good 6 months. I'm not really fond of dropping $135k cad before taxes on a base 911.

I still think that the S55 sounds horrid–even if it's technically superior–it's too farty-sounding and has an un-BMW-straight-six-like gravelly sound that just doesn't compare to the warm, smooth tone of the N54/N55, and doesn't compare to the sonorous sound of the N51/N52/N53...

So I will be the combo breaker here!

I love the idea of the M2C..

I have enjoyed my current M2 to the fullest. Autocross, Full Track, weekend shenanigans etc..

The S55 Tuning possibilities are way more superior than the N55 in the current M2..

I welcome the change and currently have $ at two dealers to see if I get an allocation.

Financing details will be the deal breaker.. But it's a possibility..

believe me.. I know all about the funny math that's not supported by a Scale.. see here...

And the M2 comp tacks on more weight up over 3600 lbs

At that weight, a F8x ZCP/Comp pack would be an equally attractive proposition.

I'm not sure why people are sweating over allocations for the M2C. it's the new 'normal' M2. there will be loads of them around after the first few months!

Personally it doesn't excite me very much. Just a heavier, weirder sounding version of a pretty decent car but lacking emotion. To me the M2 didn't need more power; it needed more feel and directness like the 1M. instead they've added weight and more HP; *shrugs*

it's like ordering a sandwich with no mayo and extra hot sauce; and getting opening the bag to find a sandwich with extra mayo and a pickle.

Interesting comment. That wasn't the case with the first gen - why do you think it will be different with this one?

there are lots of M2s around right now, unsold and at discounts.

when M2s first were introduced production was low and there were waiting lists. Several months later the supply had caught the demand and there were no issues getting an M2 afterwards...

It wasn't several months, and I'm not sure where you are coming up with this. As a M2 buyer who waited one year to get his at sticker, I can tell you, supply did not catch up with demand until late 2017/early 2018 - for a car that started production in early 2016.

hop over to the M2 board and spend some time there.

In the NYC area there have been no issues with M2 supply for a significant amount of time...at least over a year. I've seen it myself, in person, at multiple dealers. I feel the M2C will be the same. constricted supply in the beginning; oversupply with discounts towards the end. Typical life cycle for most M cars, actually...
