2012 BMW 135i DCT Transmission Service
2012 BMW 135i DCT Transmission Service
Since I'm a new member of the forum, I felt I should make a contribution, so here goes: An exploded view of the service items: https://www.alltranz.co.nz/shop/transmission/147A/BMW/ Here are two good videos on the service procedure: The following parts are needed: Oil pan with gasket Oil pan bolts Pan filter Side filter Fill plug 7 qts of DCT oil From Amazon, Rein DCT Service Kit P/N TSK0024: Oil Pan, 28107842840, 14 pan bolts, 28107842386 Pan Filter, 28107842828 Side Filter, 28107842840KT $305.44 For the oil: https://www.carid.com/pentosin/full-...n-1080107.html $144.12 And the rest: https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135i-N55_3.0L/ Drain/Fill Plug, 28107850241 18.61 You have drained the oil, and now you want to put the fresh oil in. Pump in whatever amount of oil it'll take until it dribbles out the fill whole. Loosely put the fill plug back in. Hook up your scanner to measure the transmission temperature. Start the car and let it warm up a bit. Run the engine for one minute at 2,000 RPMs. This done to just circulate the oil through the system. It should have settled down to an idle by this time. Let the engine continue to run. Start the fill process when the transmission temperature exceeds 32C. Remove the fill plug and continue filling until the oil starts to dribble out. Ideally, you'll want to overfill it and let the excess dribble out at 40C/104F. Put the fill plug back in & done. My transmission took 6 qts. Don't worry about getting in a hurry to complete the procedure. You'll have plenty of time before the temperature reaches 40C. Incidentally, the oil that drained out looked clean. From what I have read on the forums, an analysis of oil samples revealed the oil to be in good condition. Alternatively, you can use a software program called ISTA+ which is discussed in the videos. As far as I can tell, ISTA doesn't do much more than keep an eye on the temperature, when to run the engine at 2000 RPM, and check and adjust the fluid levels. Without ISTA, you should be able to get 6 liters in the DCT. With it, perhaps a bit more? In my opinion, hardly significant. As an exercise, I put ISTA+ on my desktop computer. Frankly, it wasn't worth the effort, but if you enjoy this stuff, the following will help you out: ISTA+ ISTA+ Installation Instructions: https://mega.nz/file/bQsxGYKR#A7xDjX...-CRTnlnm7B-jrY Then you can find the other files you need here: ISTA+ 4.24.30 Standalone: https://mega.nz/file/ec0znChB#2Q41BV...x-h5tieBZGJMhg SQLLiteDBS: OTHER: https://mega.nz/file/Gd8VGC4A#9PoBUD...yk3mxWidT8sIk0 EN (English): https://mega.nz/file/2d9jjYpB#oRB9AV...6fqmBauiLQJQl0 Enjoy! |

Addendum
I thought I had better add this link just for completeness:
https://www.amazon.com/REIN-AUTOMOTI...2097187&sr=8-1 Isn't Amazon wonderful? BTW, I never pay for shipping. Just select free shipping and disregard the ETA. I always get stuff much earlier. Another great thing is the stuff always shows up on my doorstep. I can't say that about any other delivery service. Sometimes I have to track it down, or when it shows up, the packaging has been beaten to death. Finally, it is amazing all the items you can find. I do 99% of my online purchases there. |

OP, do you plan to put the car into 1st gear after running the car up at 2k rpm for a minute and while filing? That seems to be the only minor difference between your original write up and the ISTA printout.

Here's the parts list I used to save more money. Only thing I'd be wary about is the ebay pan.
Filter with snap ring and cover https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8005636 Suction filter https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8141896 Ebay pan(risk?)https://www.ebay.com/itm/Auto-Dual-C...4AAOSwpr9eAxBU Liqui Moly fluid 2x5L https://www.ecstuning.com/b-liqui_mo...ter/20116~liq/ Transfer pump https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Final price after tax is $280. I think the liqui moly 1L bottles are cheaper, don't remember why I bought the 5L's. The gasket that comes with the ebay pan is garbage but the suction filter sold by beck arnley comes with a new gasket. |

Are there any long term results so far of preventing/less leaks using the aluminum pan vs the OE plastic, or does the problem lie more in the gasket itself?

I think the plastic pan warps over time, so the aluminum pan would be a really nice upgrade. Cheapest one I found was $600 so I think that's a good price if you're thinking about buying an oem pan.

Put a little thought into your question. How does a DCT operate?
