Front bumper tabs

Anyone else suffer from the horrible design on the front bumper tabs between the fenders and bumper? Mine have gone to shit 2-3 times and I've resorted to plastic welding…anyone find a solution?

I used quik latches on my mustang when the tabs broke off of its bumper and they worked great and look pretty good. I haven't looked to see if we have any easy places to mount them on the 1 series like there were on the mustang though.

So I've plastic welded myself maybe 6 times, had a body shop take them off of another bumper and graft/retrofit onto my bumper, and have had maybe 2(?) new bumpers in total aside from the OEM one…ALL have failed lol.

I wanna have a shop fabricate custom metal/something more durable, to attach Bc I'm sick of them breaking and then continuing to break and rip more and more once it gets going.

Unless someone has a better idea/diy idea for me, I'll report back lol

I realize it's just a horrible design flaw and the roads in Boston are fucking brutal But there has to be some sort of solution for this

What do you think is causing the problem? Is it just intense vibration/impact from suspension driving around, or is your tire rubbing hard on that area? Hard to tell from your picture.

I had trimmed my bumper tabs for extra clearance and had it that way for years (3-4-ish), and even with some rubbing once in a while, didn't have too much of an issue.

Although, last year, I did finally have the bumper break apart near there, although mine was more on the actual face of the bumper, not hidden inside. Like it cracked through the visual paint.

Sure this is what I used. https://www.quik-latch.com/ They mount to the body and then use a quick release hood pin to hold the bumper in place. The mustang had a nice spot predrilled in the body to mount them I'm not sure if the e82 does. They look something like this installed https://www.quik-latch.com/images/S550_2.png

Well it's definitely 3 things but if it was reinforced with something more durable (metal/fiberglass/even carbon fiber strip maybe) it wouldn't happen.

1. My setup - 19" BBS CH-R
2. Lowered 1/2"
3. The ATROCIOUS roads in boston

I've had multiple things break or rip…the fender metal panel, the actual bumper and/or both at the same time.

Ultimately I'm looking for someone who can literally fabricate a new bumper tab out of something durable to replace the existing ones. Need to see if anyone can actually do something like that

Wow I've never heard of this. My car is going on 13 years/100k+ miles and I've taken my bumper off/on more times than I can count and my tabs function as they should. I'd use the bumper latches, get some that look..... less ricey

Why not just buy new headlight brackets? They’re not expensive and will completely fix this back to stock…
