Painting Rims

I don't like the brake dust on my rims. I was told by a friend to replace my current pads with performance pads, according to him this will minimize the amount of dust. I know that is not the only option I have. Will my warranty be voided if I do the upgrade? I like the idea of painting the original rims gun metal. Has anyone done this before? Is there a store in the Los Angeles areas that can repaint rims?
