Hi all, I am going to change my 5years old tires currently. I am driving with PSS 245/35/18 with performance wheel and performance suspension setup. I want to try RE71R this time but they do only have 255/35/18. I am very concern about the chance of rubbing against the fender on bumpy road or car park area. This keep bordering me. I hope someone could give me some advise. Thanks!

RE-71Rs are great tires, but unless you're driving to the track every other weekend, I'd simply get another set of Michelin PSS. The Bridgestone tires are excellent, but they sacrifice road comfort and tread life for a slight performance improvement, that isn't worth it to me. The biggest issue is that they wear significantly faster than the Michelin counterpart. Incredible grip though. |

Don't daily RE71R unless you're rich. Amazing, amazing tire, but they just don't last, and are TOTALLY wasted on the daily commute.

IMO look at the new Continental ExtremeContact (aka the new DW)
Tire performance better than the PSS in the dry and significantly in the wet. PSS is a great tire, but the Conti is just that better. |

I've had the new Continental ExtremeContact tires on my car for over a month now and I really love it. Saved a couple hundred bucks over the Michelin tires too!

What are your impressions of the sidewall stiffness on the new ExtremeContact tire? I've had a DWS and DW set of tires on a previous car and the sidewall stiffness was noticeably lacking for a performance tire. Could really feel it in fast transitions, almost a delayed reaction. Tried playing with pressures but didn't make much difference. Any negatives/thoughts from your point of view? I'm leaning towards the ExtremeContact since it's impossible to find the firestones around.... EDIT: OP - apologies for the slight thread hijack - this is still sorta relevant info |

Negatives? Eh not really. It makes minimal road noise, grip level is actually REALLY impressive. If you were to drive DW and ContiSport back to back, you wouldn't think they're even in the same tire family. If you had no clue what tires were on the car, you'd have a hard time trying to figure out grip levels between a RE-71R and ContiSport. It's a very well made tire. |

Yea I was in the same boat for waiting on Firehawks but so glad I pulled on the Continentals. The sidewall is stiff, and definitely stiffer than the DWs I used in the past for my 3 series. Road comfort is noticeably better than the runflats while still giving a sporty ride and road feel. Also treadwear seems to be better than the MPSS on paper. No negatives to speak of and will buy again in the future.

Take a look at Yokohama advan neova AD08R.
I have them for dd and trackdays (when wet). They are a superb combination. Superstiff sidewalls as well. |

You will be able to watch the RE-71R tires wear down. Great for AutoX not best for daily street driving. Michelin PSS or Conti Extreme Contact DW are better options for daily driving.

The DW has been replaced by the ExtremeContact Sport. Not to be confused with the previous SportContact line.
