Lux vs knock off's

I know there is a bunch of threads about this but is it really worth the extra $125 to get lux over an amazon knock off?

Look up the price of replacing a headlight and modules.

Well, I wondered the same thing.
So I got a pair of $35 Cree LED's to try, and I couldn't be more pleased. No errors, no flicker, LED's oriented to the fiber pickups...

Sure, some of the cheap LED's are just that- cheap.

But, some simply just aren't exorbitantly overpriced.

Same - CREE LED's off eBay for $30 shipped. Zero issues except one of them is slightly more blue after an accident lol. Honestly can't believe it didn't just die.

Looks way better than stock:

Which ones did you get specifically? I am looking to for 5000k and there are too many to pick from. Thanks.

Anything that's an H8 style CREE LED with 35-45W and advertises "no error code on BMW" will work. There are many.

I also grabbed a generic set that uses Cree LEDs from Amazon for around $60 back in 2015 and it ended up being very high quality with great construction compared to most others. I ran them on my 6-speed 135i for well over a year with no issues. I made sure everything was stored within the headlight housing and ensured the caps were securely closed and all was well.

a side by side comparison between the 2 is really the most helpful to see. There are a lot of other products out there that are white, but in comparison they are not bright at all.

Here is a comparison shot of the LUX H8 160 ( which are not as bright as our new lights) compared to the average 40W brand out there on e-bay. The difference was even more noticeable in person

The photo above is why I haven't installed the generic set I own onto my current 135i. During the day, the LEDs aren't bright enough to fully illuminate both rings.

SCato, could you share a pic of your 120W ebay set up during day light? Originally I did not want to go with a setup that was over bright but after seeing LuxAngelEyes day time pic comparison I have reconsidered that 40W will not cut it for me. Thanks.

I really appreciate the quality of the LUX products, I've had a set myself. And you really CANNOT beat the adjustable options, especially the multi-color functions!

However I have a hard time justifying the cost when I'm happy with the 40W option at $30 compared to you guys which start around six times that price.

I've just ordered another set of these, so we'll see how they compare. I currently have the 40W set and they are still working fine, but one slightly changed color after an accident destroyed the headlight they were housed in.

Curious to see what you think.

I'm actually surprised at just how bright mine are. Wish I had a decent camera, my phone just won't grab a pic that's even remotely close to accurate...

We actually just received a set of these by accident so i can see if we can get a comparison at some point., There are not any forum members in our area however so getting comparison shots are not that easy

As well your right with the LUX H8 V5 we offer, the 5000K setting is the exact same as the LED Eyebrow on the newer model headlights so you can get all the colors to match up perfectly

If you're interested in tossing a set of your AE's over for me to test, I'd be happy to provide high-quality images for comparison. Even a single bulb would do, I'm not even interested in keeping them, just out of general curiosity and so others can make an educated decision. I enjoy writing detailed DIY/info threads (if you look at my past threads, you'll see what I mean lol).

I've had a 40w Cree LED bulb for about a year now, paid 30 bucks. Very satisfied.

The term "knock off" is being used completely incorrectly. LUX is not an "original" piece that others "cheaply copy".

All of them are the same, and I'd actually be more weary of installing something with higher output or power in there. It gets pretty hot.

My 2c.
