I have a 2009 128i with sport suspension that's all stock.
When it comes time for new tires I would like to go with the model#262 17 x 7.5 wheels with 225's up front just like the rears. Is it as simple as finding a set of rear wheels? Should I use spacers on the rear to bring them out even with the fronts if I do this?

You can simply find a pair of 17x7.5 rears and put them on at the front with no issue, they will fit just fine.

As far as running spacers, that's up to you, you can probably add a 10mm spacer to both the front and rear if your car is running stock suspension with no rubbing anywhere. If you are lowered, you *may* have some rubbing at the front assuming you will have a 225 width tire, probably at the bumper tab. You may need to add a bit of camber to alleviate that.

If you are stock, my gut feel says you should be fine....

Yes, all stock with M suspension option so I think it sits a tad lower than stock stock.
About the spacers, I just didn't want the front track to be wider than the back due to running the 7.5s up front.

style 262 17x7.5 225/45 47et will work but not recommended. your tire will be 0.65in closer to suspension. if your suspension is still tight some extreme bumps or RR track crossings may result in bounce rub.

the ideal front 17x7.5 225/45 would be 41et

Excuse my ignorance but:
47et/41et? Is this the offset?
If so, could I use a spacer on the front to make up the difference ?
And if I were to use a spacer up front should I do the same in the rear?

Short answer yes

I would put it on no spacer and see how it feels then if concerned get a 5mm spacer. The difference between 17x7 205/50 and 17x7.5 225/45 is 6.64mm, only reason to put spacer on the rear is push the outer edge flush with 1/4 panel. Your call

Pretty sure you meant 6.5 mm which is about 1/4"

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding something but compared to the factory 215/40 on 18x7.5 ET49 fronts used in the sport package (my 128i has these), the 17x7.5 ET47 is 2mm further away from the strut/suspension.

Hence my only point of concern was the "fatter" tire, not so much the rim/offset. My comparison:

it's a fair point but 2 things on your calcs need considered

1)17" vs 18" as the angle of the suspension moves away when you go up that 1"rim size. It's not an equal measurement, close tho.

2) the P337A & S704A M Sports Package M-suspension on your car with 18" is smidgen stiffer and firm then the S704A M-sport style 262 come on. My shop foreman and I have discussed this but never compared part numbers to verify/confirm.

The only worry I'd have to square set style 262 17x7.5 225/45 et47 is when these shock and strut age the sloppy bounce will possibly rub somewhere

6.64mm is the rim diff suspension side (1/4 inch) would be just the diff in rim add the tire diff is .4 inch

tire diff 0.40in + rim diff 0.25in = 0.65in
