2009 model

I want to take ED this summer but the thought of buying a 2008 in July when the 2009's come in Sept. bothers me. I think you might take a big hit in value immediately. Anybody else thinking of waiting for the 2009's.

I am also thinking abt waiting for the 2009 model. Whats the use of trying to get my hands on a 2008 in April/May when they will be allocated to dealers in limited numbers much like an M car? I am interested in European Delivery also but with the limited allocations to each dealer this may not happen with most dealers as they would rather just sell it from their lots. Seems to me BMW is making it difficult for many of us and we might just have to have alil more patience a few months (sept for 2009s) after the first 08s are available in April.

I suppose it would bother me if the design of the car changed adn this impacted the resale value. In the case of the 1 series, the car is staying the same (to the best of my knowledge).
When I buy a used car, I look for the year when the person bought the car as well as the model year (to see if anything changed from the previous year). So a 2009 model that will be exactly the same as the 2008 model and was bought in 2008 is a 2008 model in my view.
I am doing ED in August of 2008 and am not too concerned about this (also because I plan on keeping the car for a long time).

Plus the 2008s get all the special commemorative goodies. Not a big deal, but they'll help. Unless you're selling the car after three of four hears, mileage will make a much bigger difference than MY.

Am not concerned about the MY. You should be more concerned about a price increase, because if the value of the $$ keeps falling, then BMW might raise the price of their cars for the 2009 MY.

How do we now the 2009s will be out in September? When the E90 came out in May 2005, the 2006 model year ran until fall 2006.

Im not sure if you will be about to make a good deal on a 08 in August. BMWUSA is limiting dealer allocations as if this were a M series release. Thus they will be very limited. I was hoping to land a European Delivery but with each dealer only getting from a handful or 20 cars I believe availability will be scarce and pricing will be at MSRP or above. Forget my dream of trying to find a dealer whom would want to sell a car from their allocation for ED. They would rather sell straight out to a local buyer.
Darn BMWUSA!

I'm going to wait for the 09's, partly because I have to, and partly because I dont like the idea of buying a first year model.
