Valentine V1 Radar Detector.
Hi all,
Im considering getting a Valentine V1 radar detector, I know they are illegal in Vic but I'm willing to take that risk. I've herd of a few people hardwiring them into their dashes and being hidden, also herd of a bloke over in the states who has got his hidden inside his bmw mirror. I know for a fact that all police cars and mobile cameras are running on the "X band" and the fixed speed and red light cameras are running on the "K band" Just curious if anyone else here in Australia has one, and any recommendations of where they brought them or where to mount them. Sorry if this is a repost. Last edited by VMA-1511; 03-22-2013 at 11:09 PM.. |

Got mine directly from V1 but got mine shipped locally as I was getting other parts shipped over from the US. If I remember correctly, V1 do not ship internationally. Also you can find them on eBay and they are legit as my mate purchased one.
As for hardwiring I haven't bothered with it as its legal in WA. |

Be careful
Not sure about hard wiring. If I was to get another I would have it so I could grab it and throw it out the window if needed.
I got caught prob 10 years ago with a supposedly invisible unit (BEL 745sti) and the officer nominated the brand and model. The detector guys make an innovation and then the cops catch up - be warned. That cost me $1200 more than DUI - now it also costs 9 points in NSW. Gotta say if you stick to around the limit you have no drama's and paranoia when the thing beeps. Most cops are looking for guys above and beyond ( In NSW) Just over they couldn't be bothered. If your canning it - then stomp on the brakes when an unmarked radar unit comes into view -what do you think that tells the c*nstable??? Lazar gun and your toast too - by the time it beeps its game over Last edited by 1BimmerNut; 03-23-2013 at 03:02 AM.. |

Cops in US (and probably where you are at) run Spectre units that detect radars. V1s are one of the easiest to detect. Escort Redline/beltronics STi is a good, non leaking detector. I run a 9500ix but those leak and are not invisible |

If your going away at Easter look out for the HP car on the side of the road on freeways, behind barriers etc BUT not looking at opposing traffic - they are the units with Radar Detector detectors on board sniffing passing traffic - that's how I got done. Touch wood that was my last fine and I have owned lots of fast bikes and cars in the interim and have survived without a detector. Great if you can tell us how you get on assuming you buy one. NSW might be different
Thanks - The video showed detectors VS an actual RDD. In NSW I understand they use modified detectors as RDD's. That's how the officer who got me knew exactly which brand and model i had in my car.
In NSW they do not fight fair and have a lab buying these things and then finding ways to identify the ferquency. Unless the detector is passive then it must emit some signal which could be read ( I am no expert but that's what I was told) |

https://www.beltronics.com/store/sti-magnum.html Don't know the conversion rate. Obviously you gotta make sure the same freq band is being used in AU as in the US |

I would get a stealth detector, the V1 leaks and is easily caught by an RDD. I wouldn't run one in a state in which it is illegal because your police force is likely running Spectres or something similar which are excellent at catching V1s all day long. Bel STi (disc afaik) and the Escort Redline are the only two non-leaking detectors that I know of.
Over here X is a non-mobile detection band and K/Ka is usually mobile. If you are confused and actually mean LIDAR then I would do quite a bit of research before looking for a simple radar detector. Some are PnP with shifters, others are not. |
