I don't think anybody has figured out how to put the roof up with the key fob in a e88. Down, there are a couple changes and you have it. I used mine three times today.

When you say changes what do you mean Jim? Is it the fact that i can put my top down while driving?

I can put my top down while walking up to my car. As I come across the parking lot, I hold the door open button on the remote and the car rolls its windows down and lowers the top. The top is then down and the car ready to go when I get to it. It works best if the car is parked away from other cars - in a tight parking lot the range of the key fob is dimished and the car might not be done when I get to it.

I can put the top up with the button on the dash or with the key in the door. The buttons on the dash work while driving (slowly).

OK Thanks Jim, Its then obvious that your car came with the comfort access package. If you find any information on how to achieve this on the E88 without the package already installed please let me know. Thanks for the help buddy.

bazil769,

No I do not have comfort access. If you have a cable (one stop electronics cable recommended) and NCSexpert software, you can go in and make two software changes and your top will go down with the key fob.

In software module CAS you change KOMFORTOEFFUNG_FB to activ and in CVM you change KOMFORT_BEDIENUNG_E88_C05 to wert_02. Those two changes should get the top going down but I also changed SCHEIBEN_FUNK_E88_C05 to wert02 so that the windows would go down all the way before the top went down and I changed SCHEIBEN_TASTER_E88_C05 to wert02 so the windows will go back up when I hold the top closing button inside the car for a few extra seconds. All these changes are in CVM except for the first one.

It's a fairly straightforward but not at all intuitive process to make these changes. The software is available at a link earlier on this thread. I paid about $100 for the cable.

I think it's worth $100 to me to get the top to go down this way but the obvious payback is when you need a new battery. The same cable and slightly different software will let you do the coding for a battery replacement which seems to save over $100. There are other worthwhile changes you can make through coding, of course. I've set it so the doors unlock automatically when I pull the key, for instance.

Thanks Jim i guess i will have to do the research to find out how to get into the software module CAS as i am not familiar with anything that has to do with the coding process in the mean time i will look for the cable if you have any leads on where i could find one used pref it would be greatly appreciated. After i find it if you don't mind i will contact you for step by step instructions on how to get it done. Thank you again for your help.

This is the cable I use:

http://www.one-stop-electronics.com/...&product_id=16

The software I downloaded from a link earlier in this thread. It includes a step by step tutorial. I still use the tutorial, starting from step 50, when I code.

I got my E82 128i 6MT end of June 2012....On the site it mentions models up to 2010. Will this cable be compatible and able to code with 2012? I would also like to code my parent's 2008 128i cabriolet

I'm pretty sure it will. I may code a friends 2013 soon. If I do, I will use this cable and will be sure and post if I have any trouble. But I really doubt I will.

Great that there is a 1 series dedicated coding thread. Some answers that I've picked up along the way:

The car has to be in ignition because the DSC module is only powered when the car is in the ignition state. If you code the whole car when the DSC is not powered, it results in an error. The whole battery thing I consider a bit of fear mongering. Yes it is stupid to do coding when your battery is very low or faulty, but personally in all my years of driving I've never experienced a faulty or low battery. Yes, if you want to be professional about coding use a charger! My pov: if you have enough charge to start your car, you have enough charge for coding!

- My main beef with coding at the moment is that the 2URAD module causes a write error; my car does not have a MOST bus and most likely the software is therefor unsuccessful trying to communicate with the CAN2MOST bridge. The coding website (whose moderators are quite obnoxious about basic questions) suggest a very expensive interface cable (ICOM). But my local dealer has it and still gets the same error when communicating with the 2URAD module ...

- Coding not yet mentioned here that I found worth while so that when you press 'AUTO' on the air conditioner the cooling mode is not automatically started
KLIMA_MIT_AUTO_0 nicht_aktiv
KLIMA_MIT_AUTO_1 nicht_aktiv
KLIMA_MIT_AUTO_10/15 nicht_aktiv
KLIMA_MIT_AUTO_2 nicht_aktiv

- Looking for parameter to display the blower speed in auto mode (can't find GEBL_ANZEIGE_AUTO in the IHK trace file)?

- As some parameters change between model/hardware updates/LCI, for others to be able to easily copy any advice in here, my suggest is to mention your build date (Sept11) and SPdaten version (V46_3)

Quite a recognizable pickle and I went the DIY way. My downloads were from sites/links that were obsolete within the month. If you do go DIY, hang in there and be prepared to feel like a child wandering in in the middle of a movie ... . Be assured that we have all gone through that.

- I do suggest using NCS dummy from the get go as it displays the next steps always in view.

If i remember correctly NCS Expert will not connect to the car without the ignition being on. Of course the engine will be off. So it is not possible to code with out the fob inserted and the start button pressed (without pressing the brake unless you have CA and even then you have to not press the brake)
