Ambient Light
I am new to the forum and have been combing every post for the last couple of weeks looking obsessively at the photos and reading the posts.
I have one question that I have not seen covered and that no one may have thought to care one way or the other about. I drive an e46 right now and have always liked the small driver-oriented touches that BMW placed in that car. One of the small things that I like the most are the small lamps in the overhead console that shine down on the gearshift at night. Does anyone know if the 1-series incorporates that feature? Not like it's anything approaching a deal-breaker, but I like those lights. I saw one image of the overhead console in the forums, but I cannot tell if they are there. Looking forward to a continued obsessive relationship with this forum until I can see one of these things in person, and maybe beyond if I replace my fantastic e46 with one. |

I wondered about the same thing but I haven't heard any words on it. Be nice to have ambient light from the roof and two on the doors like the 3 series but it's not a deal breaker for me either. I can do DIY later.

I believe I read somewhere that it was included, as well as some sort of ambient light on the door cards.
I had ambient lighting on my '06 VW GLI, so I don't see why BMW wouldn't include it on the pricier 1er, since it's on the upmarket BMWs. |

" Lights package.
The optional lights package ensures that the front of the cabin is automatically illuminated for 20 seconds once you unlock the doors, giving you the time to take your seat comfortably. As soon as a door is opened, footwell lights are activated to optimally guide passengers to their seats. The lights package also includes reading lights situated in the front and rear of the vehicle and two lit make-up mirrors." http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...equipment.html EDIT: ducati beat me to it! |

yes it should include the light that shines down on the gearshift.
all the bmw's that i've been in have had it. actually any car that costs more than 25K has it. (except maybe ferraris and those super exotic cars that don't care about those little touches) |

well from that picture it's hard to see the mini light that helps illuminate the gearbox. i believe it has it but with that glare from the light u can't see it very well.

If my MINI has it, then the 1er definitely will. It's been a BMW tradition since the E36, IIRC.
